Atheism is the new religion - like it or not.

"Simply put, atheism is a lack of belief in any gods.
Atheism is sometimes mistakenly described as a belief that there is no god. While this definition does accurately define some atheists, it's not an accurate depiction of every non-believer. Instead, atheism is simply a lack of belief in gods without necessarily claiming certainty on God’s nonexistence. The distinction between these concepts is subtle but important.
The Issue of Belief
Disbelieving in something does not mean that you believe it is false; it simply means that you don't believe it is true. For example, someone might make the claim that Ford is the best car company in the world. You may not believe that to be true, but you may also have no compelling reason to believe it isn't true.
This is essentially the definition of agnosticism. Agnostic atheists do not believe in deities, but they also do not believe in the absence of deities. Gnostic atheists, meanwhile, do make claims that gods do not or cannot exist. Both are valid types of atheism.
Is atheism just another religion?
Atheism is not a religion. There are no holy atheist scriptures, no atheist Pope and no atheist rituals, tenets, creeds, code, authority or ceremonies. Atheists come from every possible background, race and gender. They hold a variety of beliefs and convictions, and no two atheists will have exactly the same views or ideals other than their lack of belief in any gods. Atheists may disagree on many issues.

The definition of atheism notwithstanding (above), I’m going to have to point out that it is very much a religion in the hands of men who would wield it as a doctrine, which is to say pretty much every atheist who is actively involved in waging efforts no differently that religions do.

So, what days are you going to designate as atheist holidays?

To be an atheist is to understand that no action is necessary to espouse a disbelief in a god. It’s a declaration that begs no further thought. Once declared, the subject is dropped entirely from the person’s thoughts. That’s the purpose of making the declaration: To be free of theism. It is not a call to arms to promote atheism, which is what it is in practice.

I see much ado about atheism (from atheists) when I should be reading nothing of it from them. If I do read the gobs and gobs of silliness dedicated to atheism and sort through the pap of it all, I find religion at its heart. It has become a doctrine.

The arguments theists grapple with in defense of who they are should never have to occur. But, atheists are the antagonists of ill intent who call them out to argue, write books against their views and generally disrespect them at every turn. This is simply true out of the knowledge that there is no useful purpose to a true atheist to oppose theist views. It's strictly morose entertainment.

When this kind of atheist behavior gains popularity and public support from atheists at large, a religion is born and in this example appears a sad display of man's desire to hurt for no logical gain or useful reward, and in direct opposition of its definition.

Warn yourselves that you who persist in waving banners are (sadly) no different than those you seek to hurt.

This seems to be a theme of yours, Piter, as you have been vocal about it quite a few times in quite a few ways.

So, I guess that your waving of this particular banner should now be called your religion.

I don't understand your point with this subject.
The word Atheism is a hated, feared and grossly misunderstood word. You are only contributing to the confusion. To what end?

To start thinking critically and question everything, how is that religion?
To stop pretending and instead starting to live in reality, how is that a religion?
Disbelief in an asserted authority, is in no way a religion.

To me, claiming that atheism is a religion, sounds delusional.

Normally, I think that claiming that "atheism is a religion" is just an attempt of apologists/creationists to try to redefine the word, as a way of escaping the problem with burden of proof. To hear such nonsense from someone who claims to be an atheist, is just sad.

When you get raped by a priest and gets a way with it, you can dare to repeat what you just said.
IDIOT, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Theism is about the control of the mind, it is the first weapon of mass destruction.
Just open the history books and you will prove yourself wrong.

What you are saying is that the oppressor and the oppressed are the same. I have to disagree. If woman is raped is she the same as the rapist? The religious wave the banner of faith and blind obedience to the imaginary. This is not the same as waving the banner of reason and dealing with the reality of the senses. The atheist see the world as it is and not as some dream world of theist.

The argument, though a bit vague and confusing, sounds more like an theist striking back at what he does not understand. I knew many Christians who saw Atheism as a religion. It allowed them to ignore the reason and look at it like another belief system that could be discounted since theirs was true belief system.

The statement also assumes that atheist want to hurt others, which is not true.

I'm an atheist. That's all folks.

Atheism is a phrase, coined from ignorance. It is a misnomer.

I agree that simply being an Atheist does not require one to actively promote their views. I don't believe in flying saucers, but I don't spend a lot of time worrying about those who do. However being of an atheistic world view does not prohibit anyone from stating their opinions about any and every religion (that tends to be the province of theists.) I am NOT an atheist. I am an anti-theist. This means that I believe religion to be harmful to our species. As such, my views allow me to point out every flaw and contradiction ad nauseam in the hopes that some few believers will maybe pick up a sound bite or two.

Oh my, how much wrong could

Oh my, how much wrong could you have put into a single post? You think we are a religion because we are actively opposing religion? The same religion that is demonizing us and challenging us? The same religion that is attempting to dictate, at times through law, how we live? This kind level of cognitive dissonance makes me wonder if you are truly a nonbeliever, as you seem a little to quick and adamant about how we should collectively behave, as if this actually were a religion. I think you need to consider a few things:

- Absolutely ANY sentence that includes in either word or spirit that "atheists should", or "atheists are", or even "a good atheist would" is simply retarded on a level that I don't even want to contemplate.

- Outspoken atheists and atheist activists are a response, a response to religious intrusion and discrimination, so pretending that it is just some antagonistic people stirring up crap is possibly the most juvenile view it is possible to have on the subject.

- You came here, presumably to discuss either atheism or religion, meaning you are setting yourself up as an exception to your own "rule".

- Your derision of this forum, and the people who participate in it, rather tends to make you look suspicious.

Such a long text, but full of lies and misconceptions. Personally I am an anti-theist, I think religion is harmful, and I feel the moral duty with this wonderful world to fight ignorance combined with religion, to promote a religion free world, a better world for our children. You end by saying atheists want to hurt you, but rejoice! We are not here to hurt you, we are here to help you! Will make me happy to help you to open your eyes, and fight your ignorance! Don't worry!
