Atheist persecution and revolt?

I am curious, historically speaking, what instances of atheist persecution have there been and have there ever been instances were atheists have banned together and fought back? I don't think I have ever heard of the later.

In Islamic history There is a

In Islamic history There is a genocide happened on a group called " Mu'tazila " who are a rational group .
A Wikipedia page : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutazila

There is some of this group announced their atheism like Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi one of his quote "If the people of this religion are asked about the proof for the soundness of their religion, they flare up, get angry and spill the blood of whoever confronts them with this question. They forbid rational speculation, and strive to kill their adversaries. This is why truth became thoroughly silenced and concealed "

Those are the philosophers of Islamic ages who adopted a Greek philosophies but yeah most of them get killed and there is some who were displaced , And they get killed by a commands from a king depends on the fundamental interpretation that they're infidels ..

Believe it or not Just a few years ago I studied in our school that exactly this group "Mu'tazil" are infidels and they deserved of what heppend to them We're talking about one thousand years ago and the story get revived !!!

Persecution ….

Persecution ….

“I'll tell you what you did with Atheists for about 1500 years. You outlawed them from the universities or any teaching careers, besmirched their reputations, banned or burned their books or their writings of any kind, drove them into exile, humiliated them, seized their properties, arrested them for blasphemy. You dehumanised them with beatings and exquisite torture, gouged out their eyes, slit their tongues, stretched, crushed, or broke their limbs, tore off their breasts if they were women, crushed their scrotums if they were men, imprisoned them, stabbed them, disembowelled them, hanged them, burnt them alive.

And you have nerve enough to complain to me that I laugh at you.”
― Dr Madalyn Murray O'Hair

or look up Hypatia …. not necessarily an atheist but certainly a philosopher and opponent of Christianity ….

as to the "fightback" …..

you are it ….. or at least a part of it ...

so , work on your knowledge , pick up your weapons and take your place in the shield wall.

@watchman Hear hear. At this

@watchman Hear hear. At this Republic, we seek to bring about a new Enlightenment Era... and this time it will be WORLDWIDE- not just the West. And for as long as it continues to have an undeserved place in politics and everyday life, we won't stop fighting religion and superstition. We are not afraid to say what we are. We will not apologize for what we do and don't believe in. We will not censor ourselves to hide from hatred, and we will not be silenced for fear of being demonized when we speak out.

FREETHOUGHT AND REASON WILL DOMINATE THE WORLD. MYTH AND SUPERSTITION CAN DIE.

Well I'm no rocket scientist,

Well I'm no rocket scientist, but perhaps the fact that atheists and religious skeptics can be executed in at least fourteen Muslim majority nations such as Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

I think it's safe to say that yes, athiest are persecuted!

And that's just in modern times such as now, let alone historically...

I can think of a few off the top of my head...

Henry the 8ths chancellor, Thomas More was a wonderful chap, full of that wonderful theistic morality we all know and love... also burned non believers and reformers at the stake. .. bad times.

Not to mention the Spanish Inquisition, the absolute lunatics!

@Randomhero"Not to mention

@Randomhero

"Not to mention the Spanish Inquisition, the absolute lunatics!

Couldn't agree more. And Monty was absolutely right about them; it happened when the scientists and freethinkers of the time least expected it. And here is the Inquisition of today:

13 Muslim countries officially punish atheism or apostasy by death, while "the overwhelming majority" of the 192 United Nation member countries "at best discriminate against citizens who have no belief in a god and at worst can jail them for offences dubbed blasphemy"

Historically there was not a language for atheism. People were killed as heretics, witches, and apostates. With polytheism, religion was very difficult to criticise.
