Dejess started a thread that is basically an insult. He won't accept ANY answers to his insulting question but instead just insults people. His behavior should be addressed because he ISN'T interested in ANY meaningful discussion. He is only interested in insulting atheists. So why the fuck is he here?

I believe this is Mariosep from AF. He was banned for trolling. I suspect there may be a language barrier at work also. He will always circle back to "Dear Atheists..." ! Cracks me up! I like him, he is a good rep for the believers. Have fun! Don't get angry.
I agree this one is just a troll.
I had some impartial people read his thread, and they all agree he is just stirring up shit and attracting attention. There has not been any significant dialogue with this person.

No-one goes to his site where he asks and answers all his own questions.
He's a lonely old self styled academic who wants to disprove science and atheists for some reason.
His refusal to answer questions is annoying and pointless, but I guess he is enjoying the confrontation, imagining he is disturbing the complacent atheist community.

Perhaps he’s a troll, perhaps not. I guess it all depends on how you decide to define what that is.
I think dejess, as do many other theists who have been labeled as trolls in these forums, sincerely believes what he’s saying. IMO, a troll is one who makes shit up with the sole purpose of inciting discord. I see no measurable evidence that he is doing that. Kenny, for those who remember him, represents, to me, what a troll is.
Interestingly, the article at the link that follows, describes ten different kinds of internet trolls. I had to chuckle when I read it because so many folks who regularly post here could easily fit into one or more of these descriptions.

In the grand scheme of things, in five months, dejess has begun exactly two threads. That’s hardly overwhelming the debate room with discord. So why all the kerfuffle?
Well when Dejess essentially calls atheists ISIL terrorist and we are not allowed to respond in kind that is a problem.
I guess then anything goes and if that is so I don't expect in action to be taken is that the case?

Unless CyberLN or Dejess tell us that any action was taken, like a stiff warning, for likening atheists to daesh we are not going to know.

Dejess has ignored my post completely and I am included in his "ISIL terrorist" insult but I just don't give a fuck because I've been called worse things and I know what a pathetic old codger he is. He is certainly not going to give up his queer beliefs just because we all insult and condemn him in return. For public face, deliver him a parting criticism if you have to and have done with it, he is only making a fool of himself. At best he should be ignored as being not very significant.

Dejess has insulted me for no reason. Two wrongs do not make a right (in regards tit-for-tat etc.). Any serious breach of the rules should be dealt with.

So, if my understanding is correct, it is a rule on here that we are not to "personally attack" other members. And that is all good and well. I understand that. I have also been sternly warned for doing it myself. Fair enough. And I have no problem with that rule as long as it is applied fairly across the board. In the above example, it is pretty clear Dejess is intentionally throwing insults at Sapporo. And that insult was without any provocation on Sapporo's part. Anybody with the capability of typing a sentence on here can look at that remark from Dejess and clearly understand he is basically flat-out calling Sapporo an idiot or a dumbass. But just because he doesn't actually use those particular terms, we are told to simply ignore him and go on about our business. However, if I or anybody else were to call him out on that insult and use clear and concise terminology in defense of ourselves or others, then we risk getting warned and/or evicted from the site. In other words, if I were to respond to Dejess in defense of Sapporo and tell him, "Hey, dumb-fuck, stop with the back-handed insult bullshit," then I imagine I would no longer be allowed to remain in the AR.
Yes, two wrongs do not make a right. However, allowing a bully to get away with doing anything he/she wants without anybody being allowed to retaliate and defend themselves in kind is far worse in my opinion. I can tolerate quite a few things up to a certain point, but once that point is reached, I firmly believe in plowing over whatever it is that pushed me to that point.
I am taking this, and more, into consideration and will spend a wee bit of time thinking about it all.

Thank you. Just so you know, I have no problems with the rules as long as they are equally applied. I fully own up to my remarks that prompted you to warn me, but I make no apologies for those remarks as I meant everything I said. If I were to make any apologies at all, it would be to you and/or other mods who might be put in a position to make a difficult decision regarding my conduct. Without trying to sound corny or cheesy, I have come to think of this site as something of a "second home" of sorts, and I have made many good friends and enjoy the atmosphere. As such, I have become protective of it. Just my nature. And I completely despise arrogant and ignorant bullies like Dejess. Just because he does not use foul language does not mean he is not insulting to people. As I believe I have demonstrated many times on this site, I am fully capable of delivering amazingly sharp insults toward individuals without ever using a single word of profanity, and even without it being aimed directly at the individual. Doesn't make it any less of an insult, though, does it? Sometimes, though, subtle just doesn't quite cut it, so I prefer to take a more direct approach.
So, just an observation, but when somebody like Dejess comes along acting the way he does, it always seems that we (the regulars on here) are basically told to "ignore them if you don't like it," when we complain about it. Okay, fine. Then, in all fairness, that individual should simply ignore us whenever we respond in kind to his/her insults. And if they don't like getting hit back, then they either need to stop being an ass or simply leave. I am all for keeping things as civil as possible. We have some incredibly smart and mature folks here on this site, and for the most part we are pretty good at policing our area and keeping folks in check. But, unfortunately, in order to keep things civil, smacking somebody upside the head is sometimes necessary every now and then. Again, just food for thought.

You'll probably laugh, but I think Dejess singled Sapporo out because he thinks Sap's a woman. It's Sap's icon picture. And what we do we know about Dejess? Well, we know he's a 79 year old male and we know he's not exactly a moderate, tolerant sort of theist. I'm sure it wouldn't surprise any of us to learn he's a little bit sexist, would it? I know I'm pigeonholing Dejess- but it fits.
I have taken some time to both think about this and re-read the entire 300 post string started by dejess.
Here are a few of my observations:
1. This is only his second OP. He is not littering the Debate Room with them.
2. Over 90% of the comments in the string have been made by others. I would say that it's not just dejess that's keeping this thing going.
3. I counted at least 30 personal attacks in the string made by people other than dejess.
4. Many atheist posters fit the definition of Troll.

I have indeed warned people, typically via PM, to stop name-calling and bullying. I have NOT yet banned anyone for it. So I guess I am indeed, applying my actions equally.
If you want dejess banned for his remark to Sapporo then a whole lot of other will have go with him.

First, my apologies to you for not making myself completely understood. In my last post, I should have added that I really don't care if that guy or others like him are banned or not. Quite honestly, he really isn't any worse than our dearly departed FIG/AB/DC/Billy. And I had a good bit of fun with that guy. If anything, guys like Dejess actually HELP the atheists position (in my humble opinion). By claiming to be Christian, or Muslim, or whatever other belief they choose, and then behaving in such a manner as Dejess or FIG, it seems to me they are doing half our work for us. Therefore, as long as the guy doesn't start spewing racial/homosexual/gender slurs, then - heck - let the dude rock on. If nothing else, he makes for cheap entertainment.
Here's the thing, though. With the exception of a rare few more "noble" individuals, pretty much everybody here slings mud at others from time to time. Quite honestly, I actually enjoy a good rowdy exchange every now and then. *chuckle* And if I happen to insult somebody unduly, then I fully expect that person to call me out on it and put me in my place. In some cases, I would even expect a few others on here to join that person to help keep me in check. No problem. And if they sling a few personal insults in my direction during the process, then so be it. Apparently I deserved it. But I wouldn't see it as a reason to ban any of them.
Like you said, if you were to start banning people for insulting others, then over half the members here would be evicted. That's just silly. My contention is that if guys like Dejess are dteremined to hang around acting the way they do, then they should be fair game for whatever is thrown back at them. In regards to Dejess, I said my piece to him, and now I ignore him, as it has become obvious the guy refuses to engage anybody in any rational manner. But if he starts insulting others, then I believe those who are insulted should have the right to respond in whatever manner they see fit. And if he can't take it, then he shouldn't be dishing it out in the first place. Again, I apologize for the confusion. Hope this helped explain myself a bit better.
The issue with Dejess is both the insults and the trolling together. People have repeatedly answered him within the terms of the thread topic (that he started), and he has disingenuously and repeatedly said that they have failed to do so. For me, that is the mark of a person who has no interest in "Chatting, Learning & Discussing Atheism & Religion" (to paraphrase what it says at the top of the forum index).
That marks him as distinct from forum regulars - although yes, it is important to keep within the forum rules generally.
The cure for Dejess is to starve him of attention. He doesn't engage in debate, and he has nothing interesting to contribute. Ignore him and he'll go away.
His worst sin is that he's boring.
