Flat Earth....

Hey Everyone. So i have a question,you may think its silly but i want to know something. Do people really believe that the earth is flat? Where do they get scientific evidence to back this and how is it even logically possible? What exactly do they believe? I am not very educated and even i think its nonsense. .

Anne - "Do people really

Anne - "Do people really believe that the earth is flat?"

Sadly, yes.

Anne - "Where do they get scientific evidence to back this and how is it even logically possible?"

They don't. Typically they believe that every scientist, map maker, astronaut, and sailor (and lots of other people) for the last 300+ years has been involved in a conspiracy. How this conspiracy is supposed to benefit them I have no idea, but I certainly haven't got my cut of the money!

Anne - "What exactly do they believe?"

I don't have a good answer for that, and whatever the answer is, I doubt it is simple.

Yes, people do actually

Yes, people do actually believe that. I honestly have no idea where they get the evidence that makes them believe it except for religious texts, and even then, those are false and not backed up by evidence.

If someone can believe that

If someone can believe that the Bible is the perfect work of a god then believing in a flat earth shouldn't be too hard. It's a case of denial on steroids! Flat-earthism, at least in the U.S., is a defense of the literal Bible which, for once, is read honestly. Such a mind digs deeper and deeper until some exotic loophole can be found, and loopholes to any rebuttal can always be found if you dig deep enough. But the price of passing up the natural, probable arguments for highly improbable, exotic ones (in order to support some doctrine) simply means that the doctrine will be "confirmed" no matter how grossly wrong it is. Such a person builds a cocoon to keep out reality, and living in a small, isolated community of fellow believers is the best possible way to take leave of the real world!

Muslims claim a world

Muslims claim a world population exceeding 2 billion. Because the Koran really does state that the earth is flat, those two billion people have to profess it is so regardless of their actual belief. Otherwise they risk being murdered as apostates for contradicting the word of god as invented by an ignorant murdering pedophile and psychopath: Mohamed.

@Daniel https://en.wikipedia

@Daniel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherical_Earth#Islamic_astronomy ok, it's just Wikipedia, but I needed a quick source.
What's in the quran is one thing - and of course there are myths and poetical explanations, allegories, etc. but the islamic world used to be the scientific part of the earth, after the romans and christians messed up. But for them it seems, a lot of philosophy and science would have been forgotten . but they copied texts and translated them - and centuries later scholars in the christian realm opened up to sources of greek philosophy etc. that they got from the muslims!
Oh, yes, christians and atheists are adept at murdering&harming people, too.
