There is a 500 megawatt

There is a 500 megawatt fusion reactor under construction right now. But it will still be decades before we see commercial reactors.

Nuclear energy is much safer

Nuclear energy is much safer than any fossil fuel. Hard to believe but it is safer than solar. People just scared of shit they don't understand.

Like I d, it is the only

Like I said, it is the only effective alternative to fossil fuel, let's go nuclear!

Agree with you there. I wrote

Agree with you there. I wrote a 30 page paper on nuclear power back in my college days, pretty much the same conclusion I came to, and I initially started the paper to talk about why we should not do nuclear.

Why is solar dangerous, apart

Why is solar dangerous, apart from people falling off roofs or electrocuting themselves during the installation phase?

I'm not afraid of nuclear per se. I'm afraid of the idiots who run the nuclear industry and operate nuclear plants, like the people who tried an unauthorized experiment at Chernobyl, or the board of Tokyo Electric Power, who built a nuclear plant in an area with a history of tsunami, and then penny-pinched on sea wall construction.

That is more or less it. As hard as it is to believe; nuclear power has the lowest fatality/kwh ratio of any energy production; by quite a large margin.

The US has generated more kWH

The US has generated more kWH of electricity from nuclear than any other country in the world. Amount of fatalities and or terminal diseases directly related to nuclear power generation in the US? Zero.

3 mile island is the worst nuclear disaster in the US. And it did not even make anyone sick. On a public health/safety measure, we should convert all our fossil fuel power production to nuclear immediately. But the power producing industry is more interested in cost than health/fatality outcomes. Nuclear in the US is extremely expensive, but all that red tape does make it very safe.

The good news is that coal powered plants here in the US are closing at a record clip, with almost no new plants being opened. China is scaling back how many new coal powered plants they are opening by a lot. Investing in coal right now is a fools errand.

Besides what do all these theist have to worry about? Surely their god would protect them from nuclear meltdown? It is so unlikely to begin with, if their god cant protect them from that, it is a pretty useless god, or they just have little faith in their god.

It seems you're still trapped in that loop of filtering out what you don't want to be true. You've been able to make some changes before, so I hope you can learn to fight that urge to reject what you don't want to be true.

I does seem like most

I does seem like most athiests are progressives. I refute the nanny state. I refute the PC bull that has invaded today's political and social conversation. I think you were an idiot for voting for trump but that's because my own reasons for opposing him. It wasn't because of the mainstream "he's a mysogynist racicst radical" but because he very openly tried to appeal to the populist worst in all of us. Almost none of his policies make sense and worst(for me at least) he sounds like a moron.
Fight me I welcome the debate win or lose.

I will bite, even though, I

I will bite, even though, I mostly agree with you. (All of politicians are the problem not just the far right/trump.)

As long as you do not turn around and vote republican/far right I am fine with you calling progressives/liberals part of the "nanny state."

I truly think in the US is it is unfortunately about the lesser of 2 evils. As bad as Mrs Clinton was, voting for trump is beyond stupid, to me its like picking a quick death by gun (Clinton) or death by being slowly eaten alive by ants (trump.)

Not sure if I read you right, you do not have a problem with trumps misogynist racist radical /conspiracy theory tendencies?

I still also fail to understand why anyone votes for trump unless their yearly income is 7 figures or more or the voter is blind to facts and will believe anyone that tells them what they like to hear.

Also its pretty easy for atheist to lean left, the left is much better about separating church and state then the far right.
