Life goals

Hello everyone, since we are atheists that's obviously meaning life is all what we have, we know this very well, no after life no heaven. So what did you do in your life to make it your heaven? or you prefer hell :)

@ We know this very well, no

@ We know this very well, no after life no heaven.

No! We do not KNOW VERY WELL. We assert that there is no evidence and no reason to believe such claims. We do not have the burden of proof of proving that there is no after life of heaven.

Think about it. PROVE THAT HEAVEN DOES NOT EXIST. You said you "KNOW." How do you know this. Prove it. By making the assertion you have accepted the burden of proof and set your self up for failure. You can not prove that heaven does not exist; therefore, you can not say it does not exist.

You can try but the idea of "heaven" like that of "god' is an un-falsifiable claim. Atheists only "KNOW' heaven does not exist when they are given a very specific definition of heaven that can be proved not to exist as it is logically and demonstrably fallacious or self contradictory.

I am an atheist. Why would I make my life heaven or hell? This is something only a Christian mind would imagine. It is called "black and white" thinking. Life is good or bad. Right or wrong. This or that. NO!

My bad times are as much of the good that has happened to me in my life as the good times. It is from the bad times that I have grown to appreciate the good times. It is from the bad that I have learned to care and empathize. It is the memory of being broke in a foreign country and unable to speak the language that I learned about survival. It is from sleeping in the back of a pickup truck under a leaky shell and crying myself to sleep at night only to wake and shower in the university gym before attending classes that I learned perseverance and that a determined mind and body can accomplish that which it sets out to accomplish. I reject a life of heaven or hell. I would never give up my hell for it is that hell which makes my life heaven.

@ You can not prove that

@ You can not prove that heaven does not exist; therefore, you can not say it does not exist.

If you are talking about heaven literally, i can say 100% it doesn't exist also god the same, simply because the proof wanted from people that create them in their minds while no proof in reality about them. You can't ask for a proof that nothing doesn't exist! you should ask for a proof of something is exist, when you can't find a proof automatically it becomes nothing.

When I die, it's over. There is no afterlife or reincarnation.

But until then, my goal is to leave this place a little better. I also want to be remembered as a good man who loved without limits, and had a lot of fun memories.

@ Shadow: I can say 100% it

@ Shadow: I can say 100% it doesn't exist.

Prove it. You can say it all you like. It is an un-falsifiable claim. I would love to see you try. I will even start the thread for you. Obviously we will move the conversation to the Debate room. Please support your assertion.

Prove what? you ask me to

Prove what? you ask me to prove that nothing is nothing! :) i'm the one that should ask you for a proof, because you are claiming that nothing is something and not nothing. not me, got it ?

Shadow,

Shadow,

"...we know this very well, no after life no heaven."

According to the biblical fairy tale there is a heaven. The kicker is that after Judgment Day there won't be a heaven. It will cease to exist. The afterlife will take place in a 1,500 mile sided golden cube called New Jerusalem. The inhabitants won't have traditional flesh and blood bodies as we have now although they will wear white robes and eat fruit and drink water. But they won't be in the heaven as people normally think of it. They will be kept in the cube behind a tall wall on a waterless planet that doesn't have any darkness. It sounds like a maximum security prison.

Thank you for sharing. This is not the debate forum. Oh - you are talking about one of the Biblical heavens,. Which one? There are several mentioned within the text known as the bible. Can you reference your source?

So what did you do in your life to make it your heaven? or you prefer hell :)

I look at it this way: Life is what you make of it. Of course, exceptionally few persons have undergone the horrors I have in my life. And, in a way, still do. Despite those horrors, I have always picked myself back up, dusted off, and kept on going. For the 18 years my family was alive, it was Heaven. The few years after their death's, it was nightmarish Hell. In the last 15½ years, as the Catholics put it, it has been a kind of purgatory. It is what I make of it. Now my purpose in life is to eradicate ALL religion. A goal, but one I shall never see accomplished in my life. Bummer.

In your first statement:

...since we are atheists that's obviously meaning life is all what we have, we know this very well, no after life no heaven.

I think some got it wrong as to reference of the bolded phrase. As I read it, I interpreted it as an adjective phrase which refers to the previous phrase, not the following phrase.

I can see where they confused it as referring to the phrase:

...no after life no heaven.

However, one could interpret just that last phrase as reading"

[we know]...no after life no heaven.

However, I would add that we Atheists do NOT know whether there is an afterlife, Heaven, Hell. As I always say, no evidence = no existence; thus, I choose not to believe the claims of the Absolutists. I never say I KNOW there is NOT... Instead, I always say, "I do not believe your claims. Please provide hard empirical evidence. Else, your preposterous claims shall be summarily dismissed."

well done my friend.

@ Now my purpose in life is to eradicate ALL religion.

Diversity and variation are what give the life a meaning, imagine a world with only one color, we will be blind! we need wrong and right to give the life a meaning. just hold on your side.

@ I think some got it wrong as to reference of the bolded phrase. As I read it, I interpreted it as an adjective phrase which refers to the previous phrase, not the following phrase.

In fact it refers to both phrases. I don't believe there is a chance even 0.1% that afterlife may exist. Why? because religion is the one that created the soul, which in reality there's no such a thing called soul but only body. So there is no afterlife 100%. i believe there's no god 100% if we are talking about that god in religions. any other power that may create the universe won't called a god and won't have any similiar characteristics.

@ I never say I KNOW there is NOT... Instead

However, i understand your point of view to leave everything open and not certain.

True. However, we can have all that without the horror and terror of the Absolutists.

We as a species do not need their daemoniacal beliefs.

I always hold to is: "The human species would have been much better off had there NEVER been any kind of religion. Religion is the worst enemy of Humankind."

In fact, here is my whole quote:

I have never truly believed in ANY religion, especially the Absolutist religions. There is no philosophical ideology more divisive than religion. And, the worst part of ANY religion is that it is an ideology that is implicitly and explicitly protected from any and all criticism from both within and without. Why should any ideology, especially religion, be so privileged? Can you not see how disastrous this way of thinking can be, and is? I firmly believe, and shall take this belief to my grave, that the human species would have been much better off had there NEVER been ANY form of religion. It is due to religions, and their way of thinking, and their theological disagreements, that has created the greatest destruction, injury, death, harm, immorality, wickedness, and abuse to the human species than any other cause. The main problem is not religious fundamentalism, but the fundamentals of religion. Ultimately, it is Religion that is Humankind’s worst enemy. — RMF Runyan

And I shall hold firm to the belief that ALL religions should be exterminated. Not humans, just religions.

If I had not gone through all

If I had not gone through all the hell I experienced in my life, it is highly unlikely I would have the fantastic woman I now have making my life a heaven on Earth. Like Steve Miller once said, "You know you got to go through hell before you get to heaven."

@Apost and Cog

@Apost and Cog

Well, I spent a majority of my life moving around from place to place. As a kid, it was very rare we lived in one place for more than a few months at a time. Then when I got out on my own and joined the military, I was always going out and about for training or deployments or such. As a result, the couple of times I did try to "settle down" never worked out very well. I was too restless and adventurous, and often gone for weeks or months at a time. Had an absolute blast, though. *chuckle*

Now, however, I absolutely love the life I have with my wonderful lady. She has had such an incredibly positive influence and impact on me over the past few years we have been together. She has given me a peace of mind and a sense of security and purpose that I never imagined I could ever have. And I am thankful for every minute I have with her. She totally changed my life. Hopefully, Cog, you will one day find a special woman who can do the same for you.

To answer the OP's question,

To answer the OP's question, I have these goals in my mind, or what some people may call a "bucket list", that I want to achieve and currently working towards. Of course, I eventually want the awesome career, marriage, family, and whole white picket fence in the next 10 years or so. As an agnostic atheist, I can't say for certainty that there ISN'T an afterlife of some sort..it is simply unknown. When the time comes, then I'll know for sure what awaits me afterward.

Nonetheless, I want to make the most of my life no matter what and simply live life to the fullest!

I think it is great that you

I think it is great that you know what you want and are moving forward. My life has actually been more about knowing what I don't want. Saying NO! to High School was the beginning. Wow! Was I a little shit. I was back and forth across the USA 3 times before I turned 20, and on my own. I knew school was the only way out of the life I was born into. I don't know where I got that idea from but from age 20 on, nothing was more important than education. I went from failing out of university to being on the Deans List in the top 10% of the school. Just saying, when you put your mind to something and work at it because it is what you want... everything is possible. Good for you!!!
