A very nice christian lady on my place of work that knows that I am an atheist once told me if I liked this song.
I said Yes, I like how it sounds, it has nice rhythm.
She said "see, Christianity helps inspire people to make nice music".
I giggled since I was just explaining to her how Christianity was created to manipulate people by telling some things people liked to hear.
I told her, yes it does inspire people but not in the way you think.
The author is an atheist lol.
She said "what?"
I told her, to try and understand what he is saying instead of only hearing "Amen", or "Take Me To Church".
She didn't want to believe me of course, I had to print her the Lyrics lol
Here are the Lyrics and the song movie:

"I was born sick,
But I love it
Command me to be well
Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen"
She was shocked when I read that to her lol.
It was cool to show her first hand how easy it is to manipulate religious people by putting a few words they like lol.
Ever had this experience?

Wow, she really didn't pick up on the message of the song! She should watch the video as well.
I've never had a similar experience, unfortunately. But I almost choked on my food when I was eating at a religious establishment, when I saw a sign on the wall that said: "I would rather be hurt by the truth, than comforted by a lie."
It was just so ironic.
Finding that in a religious establishment is indeed shocking for sane people.
Maybe an atheist prank? But none of the religious people got it? :)
They do not even understand the most evil character ever imagined is their god, no wonder they won't get it. LOL
I've run into this sort of thing all my life.
You don' need to go as far as a song to find inconsistencies like this, they're in every house of worship every week.
They're in the bible. Tell the faithful what the bible actually says and they put their fingers in their ears and swear that the bible doesn't say that. Try it , you'll see.
Indoctrination is to blame. Beliefs run so deep in the religious that they just can't hear what is truly being said. they can only perceive what fits comfortably into their preprogramed mental picture of the world.
Don't ask me how to fix this, but it's got to be fixed.
True, but what one has to admire is the atheist that made the song sound christian to attract christian listeners and at the same time expose the method used by Christianity to make Christians believe what they want even if it is something the believers disagree with.
I see it as a way to make the believer realize that this kind of drug they are overdosing in, indeed is there and truly works.
Odds are she won't be listening to that song anymore LOL So funny!
I'm sure someone will come up with another one and she'll like that one even better.
Nah she is a smart theist but simply never had the time to actually think about her religion.
I think she learned her lesson and on her way to heal from theism altogether.
though you are right in 99% of the cases you nailed it.
I can remember some Christians thinking Evanessence was a Christian band. I suppose it was their "deep, soul searching" lyrics or whatever. Someone mentioned it to them during an interview (I have completely forgotten where) which resulted in some explosive expletives. Ha! People will hear what they want to hear, especially if what they think they hear validates their beliefs.
I've heard that a lot about Evanescence. I still do.
I find that they sound more "we've lost faith and now we're searching for the meaning of life".
Although, Amy Lee has a beautiful voice, she can't do squat with it unless she's standing still.
hello folks,
first time posting here. For Christians not quite getting songs, I assume you've seen the "One toke over the line" version from the Lawrence Welk show?:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8tdmaEhMHE
nope haven't
I find it hilarious, and can just imagine the stage crew cracking up.
Haha, that was pretty funny.
"A 'Toke' is a puff from a marijuana cigarette or pipe. Tom Shipley explained: "When we wrote 'One Toke Over the Line,' I think we were one toke over the line. I considered marijuana a sort of a sacrament..."
Heh it must have been funny but not being from such a culture or era, it seems a bit weird to me.
never even knew such a word existed before today.
If it has a God label a christian would like it. If it disagrees with their belief, it considers evil.
Yes I have. Judith by "A Perfect Circle". Even the band name is a big fuck you to Christ.lol. " Its not like you killed someone, its not like you drove the hateful spear into his side, you talk to Jesus Christ as if he knows the reasons why,he left you broken down and paralyzed, he did it all for you. The singer wrote that song for his mom, because she was left cripple from a disease for most of his life and still stayed a devoted believer.
....,he did it all for you."
