New here... Hiya!

Hello everyone. While I am new to this site I am definitely no stranger (I've been sporadically lurking about for a couple of years now). I am well acquainted with the secular community, its activities and its more notable figures.

I'm not new to being an atheist, in fact I've never been religious (not that my parents didn't make the attempt - Roman Catholic). I had to explain to my parents at an early age that I didn't believe in god and that I thought religion was a ridiculous concept just so they would stop sending me to Sunday School, which I found to be very insulting to my intelligence (I Obviously didn't phrase it in such a manner at that age, but that was how I felt). I came from a very intelligent, understanding (i.e. naive) and loving family and I've never had the hardships experienced by others who came from deeply religious backgrounds, thankfully, which makes the "horror stories" all the more surreal to me. I attended the last Reason Rally in Washington D.C. and my views in "secular activism" have evolved quite a bit since my first introduction to the culture.

I tend to involve myself in long discussions online; I hesitate to call them "debates" since I choose to discuss the individual's point of view rather than challenge it. This is a method I have been developing for a while and I am definitely improving upon. I tend to be more interested in the "why" a person thinks the way they do rather than what they actually express, and I attempt to have them recognize the same. I've been compiling a collection of these communications (keeping them anonymous for obvious reasons), and I hope to have the patience to compile them into a coherent book/blog/Vlog someday.

I don't belong to any social media, and I am definitely NOT a social butterfly; I am the epitome of the stereotypical atheist introvert. Despite that, I am very friendly, lack an arrogant streak and really appreciate intellectual conversation. When my conversation opponents get combative I can get a bit snarky, but I draw the line at overt disrespect or insults ("overt"; mind you). So I say "hello to all" and I'll see you around when the conversations get interesting!

Hiya Psyeklotic. Good to

Hiya Psyeklotic. Good to have another atheist on board. Welcome to the forum.

We're a pretty good humoured bunch here but we do get a few theist interlopers trying to test us but I've yet to see anyone here suddenly declaring they've seen 'the light of god'.

Anyway it'll be nice to get to know you so hang around and enjoy AR.

Welcome to the site. Sounds

Welcome to the site. Sounds like a bit of "Street Epistemology." We like "snarky." The mods on this site are super cool, you can even get away with an occasional insult but in the end a little private PM will usually let you know when you are pushing the boundaries. I think the only way to actually get removed from the site is to be a complete dick who refuses to work with the moderators. Looking forward to your comments. I want to introduce you to "catholicray" and "InSpirit" right away.

And here is my standard

And here is my standard Welcome...

Welcome to our corner of the WWW Sane Asylum. The temperature is a steamy 15,041°C. Just ask any theist.

The kitchen is the first door on the right. Just make sure to mark what is yours before putting it in the fridge and/or cabinets. There are certain somebody's who will take anything that is unmarked.

Do not drink any of those drink-looking bottles on bottom door shelf of the fridge. Those are specifically formulated for me and my Huorns.

The oil can belongs to Tin-Man. You don't want to mess with that. We all like to play as if we don't know what he does with it.

The bathroom is that last door on the left. If there is a banana peel on the knob, don't go inside. Long story, don't ask.

If you happen to find a pig-nose mask, please hide it as quickly as possible. Even if you have to stuff it in your pocket.

The back deck is in a small yard with a thick forest beyond it. If you see a tree moving in the forest, don't worry, that is just me tending my forest-garden.

So come right on in and set a spell.

And while you are here, do not forget the two commandments:

  1. Thou shalt not be drinking or eating or holding a plate of food whilst thou art reading posts on these forums, for thou shalt never know when a post may cause great spewage and/or a great wreckage of debris.
  2. Thou shalt don a catcher’s mask or football helmet with a face mask to prevent great injury due to repeated facepalms. Thou hast been warned.

If you browse around enough, you will learn. Thou hast been warned.

Like you, I was born an atheist, been atheist all my life.

Psyeklotic: "but I draw the line at overt disrespect or insults ("overt"; mind you)"

How dare you talk about me like that in your OP!! I never... hmmph.

***goes back to read OP***

Oh. Never mind you were talking your self. My bad.
