Tell a friend Tuesday: Measles & Anti-Vaxxers

*+*+*+*>DISCLAIMER<*+*+*+*
I want to try something new here called "Tell a friend Tuesday". We already talk about a myriad of interesting things on here. Sometimes we post about current events. I think there are a lot of things that should get reported in the mainstream and do not because they are overshadowed by (for example) what DTrump did that day. so maybe we can talk about those things here and pass it on as we see fit.

So let's begin.

The following (in quotation marks) is from the FAQ section of the CDC's website:

https://www.cdc.gov/measles/about/faqs.html

"Q: Has measles been eliminated from the United States?
A: Yes. In 2000, the United States declared that measles was eliminated from this country. The United States eliminated measles because it has a highly effective measles vaccine, a strong vaccination program that achieves high vaccine coverage in children, and a strong public health system for detecting and responding to measles cases and outbreaks."

Aaaaaaand now.. It is confirmed that in 2017, there is a significant outbreak of Measles yet again? so how could this happen? the answer is the Anti-Vaxxers.

https://www.cdc.gov/measles/cases-outbreaks.html

It turns out that the notable outbreak is in Minnesota where those who choose to report the story, would point our attention toward a Somali immigrant community. Most will read that by itself and move on with the false notion that Somali immigrants are dirty and ect.
The thing is that this has NOTHING to do with being Somali. The community is not solitary and there is a heavy Anti-Vaxxer presence within the communities they mix with. It's said in some articles that People noticed a "disproportionate amount of Somali children" who are "taking special classes" that are offered to children with Autism. There was a paper written by a discredited doctor Andrew Wakefield, who mislead the public into believing that vaccinations had a positive correlation with Autism. Fast forwarding to Minnesota and you have anti vaxxers targeting the Somali community to subscribe to their dangerous beliefs and from there... you have a substantial decrease in vaccinations and a new outbreak of measels.

But don't take my word for it.. the info is quite ubiquitous on the internet.

What does this have to do with Religion? Absolutely NOTHING, but I do see a correlation of ignorance where Anti-Vaxxers & the Religious are concerned. The religious have their gods, saints, & martyrs and the Anti-Vaxxers have Andrew Fucking Wakefield.

So tell a friend... To practice parental responsibility & vaccinate their children.

Yikes!

Yikes!
When my coworkers were having kids many of them chose not to vaccinate and I was accepting because I thought they were aloud to make up their own minds. I vaccinated both my kids on schedule that doctor recommended so I thought at least my kids will be safe. Now that I know that babies and older people a susceptible to these diseases and many cannot be vaccinated yet I feel it would be murder if one of my friends children got someone sick enough to die. I'm a huge believer in vaccinating kids and animals. Why not prevent if we have the ability. People need to be educated on this because sadly some of the wealthiest in my area chose not to vaccinate for similar reasons as my friends. So maddening!

When the swine flu was near

When the swine flu was near epidemic levels in the US, in the early/mid 70's, I was in the US Air Force. My base was located in Indiana. The entire US military was under orders to be inoculated against that strain of flu so everyone did just that. The day after the shot was administered everyone on my base was dog-sick to the point of incapacitation and the entire base was shut down. An entire US military defense unit was unable to respond to any foreign threat for 36 hours by unintended design.

I'd call that being sick by inoculation. I did not receive the shot because I was already near death from a motorcycle accident. Administering that shot to me was considered needless because I was not expected to survive. It would have meant a wasted dose. I've often wondered if that shot would have delivered my coup de gras.

The so-called anti-vaxers aren't total hairballs, though.

My MIL is visiting. She's been fighting a pain that's dead-center in her back. It's been going on a couple years. It isn't an aggravated condition. It just aches constantly and no physical movement seems to make it worse or better. Her doctor keeps throwing pills at her and none work. Their side affects have been unpleasant and frustrating to her. No time throughout this period of pain has her doctor ordered her an X-Ray of the spine. She took three cortisone shots that were ineffectual. She's confused, in pain and it seems the doctors are playing the Big Pharma kick-back number on her.

I called him up and left a terse message to have her scheduled for X-Rays or I'd seek a malpractice investigation on him. She sees a radiologist next Tuesday and we'll see what is going on with her spine. If it's evident there's a problem that pills could not resolve I'll go forward with a pain and suffering malpractice action against him.

I had someone close to me

I had someone close to me that went through what your MIL is going through. It is very frustrating. I hope you guys can get the situation resolved soon & more importantly, that she can be relieved from the pain.

She needs an MRI

Maybe she needs an MRI
After I had my first child I had so much pain in my back. If it's nerve pain like mine no exercise or pills helped. Walked with old lady walker. I needed spinal surgery to get the inner goo to stop pressing on my spine. She said it shot out like a zit when she released the pressure. I'm sorry she's in pain. I hope they figure it out.

UPDATE: I'm not a big

UPDATE: I'm not a big advocate of using testimony to prove a point. Yes, and the link below will below will take you to a page where a bunch of people on Reddit speak about being the children of antivaxxers. It's all Cause and effect so I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
