warm greetings

Hello everyone!

I was at the Non-Conference in Kitchener, Ontario last weekend, and had the joy of meeting Armin Navabi there (his table was next to mine). It was a great pleasure chatting with him and Charlyn. And hearing Armin's presentation was amazing. He's such a dedicated person, and hilarious as well.

Atheist Republic looks like a marvelous place. I'm happy to be here :-)

The story of how I left religion behind is a bit complicated; I had to write a book to get it all out.

Logospilgrim--It seems

Logospilgrim--It seems finally there is a smart smart person(you) entering this forum. Not counting the creationists who think the world is 10000 years old or the born again Christians who think Jesus was born of a virgin and walked on water and changed water into wine and was resurrected from being dead or the Jews who believe Moses got the ten commandments from a burning bush(God) and Noah saved millions of animals(2 of each kind) on the arc so God can kill the rest of the world (humans and everything) in the flood. Or the believers in Islam who want to kill all infidels, homosexuals, stone women to death for adultery, behead non believers and expect if they destroy "everything" they will enter paradise and enjoy 72 or 73 virgins. Yes we have in this forum morons and imbeciles who believe the most ridiculous things. What you will soon learn we not only have stupid, stupid idiots in this forum but also have smart stupid people who engage the stupid stupid people as if they have brains(which they don't). How is possible to have an intelligent conversation with an idiot who believes the world is 10,000 years old..But some of the smart stupid (atheists) continue to try to have intellectual conversations with "theists" There are many smart smart people in this forum and I hope you get to meet the stupid stupid people--the smart stupid people and the smart smart people. Welcome aboard a new smart smart person. God Bless

Well, I'm quite sure that

Well, I'm quite sure that like every other human being on this planet, I'm sometimes smart, sometimes stupid... Sorry to be a disappointment, but thank you for your greeting :-)

Welcome :)

Welcome :)

Oh, and perhaps I should inform about 'blasphemy'...

-------------------------------------------------
Public information announcement:
-------------------------------------------------

"blasphemy" is actually the infamous troll of the Atheist Republic forum.

Generally referred to as "Kenny", has been banned many times under different names.
Previously known aliases include: "Kenny Schweiger", "Kenny", "myself", "alleycat", "richardd", "Christopher", "marken", "punkin", "amber", "Simon", "fred,k".

Claims to be an atheist. But he has a fondness for using "sarcasm", even though no one ever gets his sarcasm and he has been told this many times, he keeps posting such deceiving comments.

He seems obsessed with religions, creationists and the stupidity of Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, Joel Osteen, Ted Cruz, Sean Hannity, Donald Trump, Vanna White, Sarah Palin, etc.

This announcement will be posted whenever he spams, agitates, confuses or flies of the handle.

Also, he finds these announcements 'boring'.

Ah... I see! I had a feeling

Ah... I see! I had a feeling something odd was happening there. Thank you for letting me know. I'm a peace-maker at heart, and I don't argue much as a rule... I was exposed to enough bitter conflict in my earlier years to last me a lifetime.

So, there it is, tralala :-)

Thank you very much for your kind welcome!

No problem :)

No problem :)

I envy you (and all the others) who live where it's a bit more accessible to attend conferences and events. There isn't much activity on that front in Sweden. But then, I have the pleasure of living where is very little religious fundamentalism.

Ah, goodness, I would have

Ah, goodness, I would have thought you'd have a slew of those over in Sweden, precisely because of the lack of religious fundamentalism. So there would be little obstacle to such discussions taking place. But then again, precisely because of said lack, there's no need for humanists, secularists, and atheists to gather at conferences, since in a way, the whole country has the sort of environment one finds at such events?

In any case, most of my furniture comes from your country, so there's that! :-)

The Non-Conference really was extraordinary. It was my first humanist/atheist conference, and it delighted me.

"I would have thought you'd have a slew of those over in Sweden"

No, not at all. To me it seems like religion has just slowly faded. Without any real fundamentalists fighting secularization, the process has just slowly had it's process. Indiviual attempts by people in the Swedish Church (Evangelical Lutheran) has been made, trying to claw their way back into schools and politics. But nothing major.
I wish there were more atheist/secular initiatives, but I guess there hasn't been a real need for it.

But not long ago I was chocked when there was a small Pride parade where I live and there was a lot of resentment from religious people.
And almost at the same time, the Church had found legal loophole to infiltrate the school where my daughter was in 2nd grade, telling bible stories to the children. So, we still have a lot of work to be done.

Sweden also takes a lot of refugees and I think it's great that we can help people. But I'm concerned that we are also importing religion in the process. We might end up needing such conferences and events after all.

"In any case, most of my furniture comes from your country, so there's that! :-)"

I'm not surprised :)
Ikea is everywhere...

"The Non-Conference really was extraordinary. It was my first humanist/atheist conference, and it delighted me."

I can image...

"So, we still have a lot of work to be done."

I think this will be the case for some time to come... But I'm optimistic :-) Religion is losing its hold most everywhere; some of the violent reactions we're seeing testify to this, in my opinion. It's desperation in the face of changing times.

Yes, I agree.

Yes, I agree.
In today's information society, I think that it has become hard to keep people in the dark.
