Is your religion tied to your ethnicity?

I've been an atheist for 2 years now and I've noticed the connection between ethnicity and religion. Am I just being a paranoid amateur ethnologist/theologian or is there a direct connection? Please let me know what you think.

Could be.

Could be.
Depends on where you live too.
Besides; Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Yea i think ethnicity plays a

Yea i think ethnicity plays a large part most english people would never think of being muslim and so on.
But family plays a larger part you generally believe what they do, traced back far enough you will likely conclude they believed because of their ethnicity.
Its getting them when they are young that makes believers. When your young enough you believe everything your parents tell you. Tooth fairy santa religion. This is reinforced by repeatedly going to church or mosque etc and repetitive study. So parents church/mosque etc sunday schools, school religious clubs, bible study they all contribute to your indoctrination though they wont see it as that in fact when schools try to teach logic and science theists accuse them of indoctrination.
