Christianity, a Religion Filled with Flawed Logic

Hey guys, I'm new here. My name is Aisha. I was raised in a very judgmental, Christian environment. I still consider myself a follower of Christ, but I am not religious. The reason why I stopped affiliating myself with a religion because there are just too many things that do not make sense to me. Some for example are as follows:

1. How can a race of people who've been proven to have been brainwashed by Christianity still believe in the same Bible that told them they were destined to be slaves?

2. If God is omnipotent, why do Christians put a gender label on God, calling God He, Him, Father, etc. If God is omnipotent, shouldn't God not have a gender at all? To piggy back off of this, if God does have a gender, what's to say that God isn't a female?

3. If the Bible has been proven to have been rewritten and interpreted several different ways, why don't people understand that people could have written in it whatever they want to to utilize it as a tool of oppression and condemnation? I mean, how many books of the Bible have actually been omitted for goodness sake?

4. Who's to say that any one religion is right? What if we all believe in the same God, but just call him by a different name?

5. A lot of Christians don't "believe" in science, even though it can be proven, which I find odd. Who's to say when God said "Let there be light" that that wasn't the Big Bang?

6. If the Bible says Jesus had bronze skin and hair like wool, why is he depicted as Cesare Borgia?

7. Are all the names and stories we here of people in the Bible just retelling of alien encounters? For example, the story of Jesus is likened to that of the Egyptian god Horus.......what if Horus was extraterrestrial, but the people of the time didn't know how to express that, so they just called the beings they saw gods?

That's just the tip of the iceberg, I have looootttsss of questions where those came from. What do you guys think?

I think that you are

I think that you are beginning to think, and that's good! You're off to a good start. Read widely and don't allow yourself to be intellectually hemmed in by dogma.

Welcome....

Welcome....

I think you are on the path.....do not turn aside...keep on......As Greensnake says...read ,research....think....question everything....

So called holy texts were created from "nothing"....hold them up to the light of reason and research.....and you can see the "nothing" in them.

Hi Aisha! Welcome to AR.

Hi Aisha! Welcome to AR. Keep up with the questions. And definitely question the answers you get as well. It will be harder for you to be accepted for doing this because of your gender. After all, that book had a lot to say about a woman's 'place' as well ;-).

I left Christianity because I

I left Christianity because I saw the direction that it was headed for.the faith healing the prosperity gospel etc etc. they always use a anthropic god, so they say that adam was the first to be created, then came eve then years and centuries later you get Jesus who says that he is god manifest in the flesh.the earliest apostles were men In one passage you get that it says that man was made in gods image and also john 3 16 that god sent his son, You notice his son.Paul was sexiest he speaks about women submitting to there husbands.Since the male gender our historians philosophers scientist have been this. The apostles were all male Paul the apostle was sexiest he speaks in ephesians 5 about women coming under submission to there husbands.

@simply agnostic (or whatever name you will be using tomorrow):

In the last 4 months you have presented yourself as Christian, then as an atheist, then as a Christian again, then whatever you are presenting yourself now (non-Christian)...

I would like to retort on

I would like to retort on your points,
1. The Bible says in NO place that black people were destined to be slaves
2. God is so far beyond gender by majesty and power that HE is referred to in the male gender because males have been considered the stronger gender for millena, but GOD is much more than just a man its only way we can fit HIM into our brains, a bieng that powerful that began the universe by speaking is hard to describe otherwise.

Oh BULLSHIT 4sho!

Oh BULLSHIT 4sho!
Prejudice, genderism, sexism, slavery, hatred, and violence are all hallmarks of the bible. Leviticus is riddled with all of it.
As far as the gender of YOUR god, PROVE anything that you claim. No god "spoke" the universe into existence! If so, PROVE IT!
I am so goddamned tired of you fucking christians NEVER proving a damned thing!

Where did I say anything

Where did I say anything about black people??????

Yes, his comment about black people seemed totally out of the blue to me as well, but I just assumed I had missed part of the conversation. But no, you are right; totally out of left field.

In the Old Testament there are still traces of God's consort, Asherah. In fact, the Bible indicates that her statue was still in the temple when King Josiah removed it. In that light gender takes on a new meaning as applied to God.

The main point to most of you

The main point to most of you guys' arguements is the horrible things done in the past by religions and christians and I say to you that, these were twisted people that have done mislead by false teachings. Jesus IS LOVE and true Biblical Christianity is not hypocritical, or mean or hateful. CHRIST is REAL and HE loves us all no matter our shortcomings and failures, no matter what you've done. And if you read the Bible and are truly intellectually honest with yourself and try to see if GOD is real, HE will show up and reveal HIS love and truth to you. HE did it to me which BLOWS my mind EVERYDAY! ✌️

"The main point to most of you guys' arguements is the horrible things done in the past by religions and christians"

No. The main point is that every religion stretches credulity to the breaking point. It's all iron age tribal fairy stories without a shred of supporting evidence for all the miracles claimed. God started out as the mythical ancestral chieftain of a band of neolithic hunter-gatherers in the Middle East and later evolved into the sky-patriarch of iron age goat herders.

The second point, which you have raised, is the terrible things done by religions and their followers, especially your Jesus cult. You claim that's all in the past, water under bridge. Unfortunately it's still happening right now. Religion-inspired evil has been going on for a long, long time. Isn't it just possible there's something wrong with the religions themselves?

@4sho
Christianity is all about prejudice and hate right NOW. Hatred toward gays, toward minorities, toward other religions and beliefs! There may never have been a jesus, and there certainly was and is no god. You have to prove that there was! I don't believe your little hearsay story. Prove it! Prove it! Prove it!!!!!!!
Goddamn it PROVE IT!

Your right that stuff is in

Your right that stuff is in the Bible but if you actually read it you'll see that it was mankind doing all the evil things that mankind does it's not GOD'S way. And ad for your proof... it's everywhere if you look, "strong nuclear force" for example is the "power" that holds all atoms together without that nothing would be.... why does that exist on that small of a scale it doesn't make sense there HAD to be a Creator.

Alembé's picture
Hi 4Sho,

Hi 4Sho,

You say: “Jesus IS LOVE and true Biblical Christianity is not hypocritical, or mean or hateful.”

The following two passages seem quite mean and hateful to me.

John 2:14-15
In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

Matthew 21:19
And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

And since Jesus = God (the trinity etc.) then this was God's doing.

"strong nuclear force" for example"

I love the way you primitive cult-followers dig up snippets of science to throw at non-believers. What's next, the laws of thermodynamics or the evolution of the eye? Here's a tip. If you're going to base your arguments on science, learn some science.

mykcob4's picture
There doesn't have to be a

There doesn't have to be a creator! You lack the basic understanding of science history or the need for PROOF!!!!!!

Bullshit. Slavery and murder are all in ''god's way" Slavery: Exodus 21. Murder: Numbers 31 and my personal favorite Genesis 7 = God murders EVERYONE. These are NOT evil things mankind does. These are things the god of the bible does or commands.

Yes it was and I'm glad you

Yes it was and I'm glad you brought that up in the temple HE was angry and justifiably so, it's one of the only times we see Christ get angry. HE is angry for the same reasons that you guys use in your arguements these were men who had made a business out of communing with GOD. In other words "Want to be forgiven? Buy this lamb, or this dove GOD only forgives those who buy my livestock", sounds familiar huh, sadly we see this all the time. HIS word is powerful and some represhensable people use this to make money. And it is WRONG. As for your other point he cursed the tree because it bore no fruit, as a lesson that if you truly have repented and made HIM Lord of your life you will bear fruit. You can't help it. James 2:17 "Faith without works is dead"

Alembé's picture
So, if a person does not make

So, if a person does not make god the center of their life, then god will curse him to death? Sounds loving to me.

BTW, I don't believe in god and the bible to me is hogwash, so all of this is just playing with words as I watch the sun set. Now I have more important things to do - fix dinner.

Your points are astonishingly weak.

50calcoleman's picture
Sorry algebe I was commenting

Sorry algebe I was commenting on the last and didn't see yours. You just made the point when you said "laws of thermodynamics" that's exactly it there are actual metaphysical laws... where did these laws come from? There are thousands of structured "laws" that our universe is built on. Why? They had to come from somewhere guys what takes more faith? That there is a Creator God, or all of this infinitely complex universe just happens. If you take a part a Rolex and put in a bag and shake it how long till it comes together and ticks presiley? And that's much simpler than systems we are discussing

Nyarlathotep's picture
4sho - infinitely complex

4sho - infinitely complex universe

Many of the apologists who come to this site love to throw around the word "complex" saying things like: "this is more complex than that" or "this is too complex to have happened by chance" but they can never give us the dimensions/units of this complexity or tells us how to calculate it. But I see you have decided to go even further and declare it is infinite! Too funny.
