I think he is trying to say,

I think he is trying to say, aliens, gods, because they are so humanoid like, means they are likely to spring from human imagination, not from reality.

It is a good point, and one of the many reasons I do not accept many religions and their depictions of god.

The problem with the view on

The problem with the view on evolution, is that people just understand (or want to understand) a slice of a bigger cake.
Normally we are used to see that image of the evolution of man, that little stairway beginning with the "australopithecus" and ending with us...that may lead to that sort of monkey comments...but evolution is such a wide and giant net of species, that is bigger than we imagine. For example, lets say that all began with number 1, and it evolved to numbers 2,3 and 4...number 2 will evolve to number 5 that goes extinct, numbers 3 and 4 evolve to 6 and 7, they join up and breed number 8...this is a long time process, and a series of coincidences and crossings (lots of hidden sex references) made us and all living beings, and this will carry on until our "number" goes extinct...but i guess it's easier to say " a long bearded men with an awesome six pack created everything"...

A big part of that is people

A big part of that is people have a poor understanding of big numbers. I took a lot of math classes, and I am just barely aware of the fact that I do not really understand large numbers. Billions of years time for evolution to take place makes perfect sense, if you understand just how long that is.

Many of us has seen the attempts to try and bring the enormous number of 4.5+ billion years to a rational number. Like the on the time line of the earth boiled down to 1 year, This Jesus Christ story character was born at 11:59 and 42 seconds on December 31st. I always try to ponder those things on new years eve, I think about the entire year, everything I done, then just before the 10 second count down begins, is when the last 2000 years began.

Reminds me of another large number using Jesus Christ. Keeping to simple math (no inflation/interest etc) in today's dollars. If Jesus Christ made 500,000 dollars a year, every year, and never spent any of it, and was continuing to work through today, he would of earned his first 1 billion dollars. He would have to work another 175,600 years like that, to catch up to Bill Gates, even at that 'phat' half a million a year salary. (Remember he cant not spend any of his earnings!)

In a stunning upset to this

In a stunning upset to this conversation. The New Pope has accepted that The theory of Evolution is fact. He had to say that god is not a magician that waves his wand as most people make it seem.

I guess the new pope is smart enough to realise that the church needs to reform or lose out.

I'd say that was fairly quick

I'd say that was fairly quick compared to their acceptance of heliocentrism

@Charvak: "The New Pope has

@Charvak: "The New Pope has accepted that The theory of Evolution"

And yet everywhere you look in the Vatican you see evidence of evolution working in reverse, with 21st century people degenerating into medievalist atavism and de-evolving mentally into rodents and cockroaches.
