Humanity is not the house of

Humanity is not the house of the holy. I don't know why there's so much civil upheaval about people exercising their barbarity. That's what we do. We create laws against it because we know how naturally compelling it is to live and bring the hurt into the open.

It's almost like the laws forbidding it define and convey holiness, and breaches of it are sanctimonious. Craziest thing there is.

People kill. It's in their make-up and something they've been doing since the P-Soup of their origins. I can't find fault in it and humanity certainly has zero logical purpose. Where does that leave man? He has only his instinctive will to survive and from there eeking out betterment is strictly a one-upmanship game of binksmanship. There's the will to survive and the rules of the fittest. En garde.

Oh, but we have society to protect. Okay, protect it if that's trending and a relative goal. It will hold for a while until the will to kill once again takes profit from the hunger for dominion by one group over the other.

Give a man an excuse to violate his neighbor and he will. That will be followed by gasps of disapproval from one or many and raised fists of approval from others, diversities assumed.

Putin is a businessman first and politico second. He correctly sees Trump that way as well. Putin wants Trump POTUS because, having done business with him already, he foresees world domination by their association for both countries. Alternatively, he's gearing up for war with the US should Clinton win. He already put his countrymen on notice to return to the motherland and recall their children from foreign universities. Saber rattling, of course, but his message is clear about the real spirit of man. He's not too concerned about the value of a human life.

No one is.

No one has ever been.

No one ever will be.

@ThePragmatic
This is quite an interesting discussion, and a disturbing one. I am sorry that I am responding to this thread so late, but I would like to contribute to this conversation.

I am still quite young (not an adult). I go to a Catholic school now and although hell is not the main topic of conversation, it gets brought up by some of the the teachers at the school. Many of the students aren't even shocked to hear about the concept of hell nowadays because they have heard about hell ever since they were younger in Catholic primary school. I can remember being around the age of 5 or 6 and hearing about hell for the first time. I remember my teacher (very mean lady) telling us that every time one sins, they receive a black dot in their heart. One of the students asked, "what happens if you get so many black dots that your heart no longer exists?" She said that if one loses their heart, they die and receive punishment forever.
What I am getting at is that hell is a very scary concept, and as many of you probably know, the majority of my questions that I ask on this site have something to do with afterlife because I fear the concept of hell still, even though I know deep inside of me that it is not rational to do so.
With respect to the Indonesian book, I think that it is not fair that such young children absorb this material. I think it would be comparable to feeding a baby poison from a baby bottle. If the baby is thirsty, he or she will drink from the bottle, and not realize that what he or she is drinking is absolutely dangerous. The baby will likely suffer from a variety of health concerns if not death. This book is illustrated for kids, which would make it enticing to read. I agree with people on this thread who stated the fact that children are the easiest to brainwash. Children that are very young don't usually have the cognitive ability to question what they are being told. Mother and father said so, or my teacher said so, and that is all there is to it. Interestingly, I have been researching the NDE phenomenon a lot recently and I found one book which actually talked about Indonesian NDE and how even some of the most devout religious people will have NDEs depicting a hell that is comprised of many different levels. The experiences that were explained seem to be pretty close to the hell that is depicted in the book that you provided. If it is in fact true that NDEs are fabricated in the brain as everyone on this website seems to suggest, then it makes a lot of sense. People expect to see it because they are ingrained with it since youth.

Thanks for sharing of your experiences.
It angers me a lot when I hear about such abusive teachings for children. Just as you are experiencing now, it can take years to overcome fears that have been taught like this, no matter how irrational they may be.

It's a good observation of you that they have seen different levels in hell in NDE's in Indonesia. In several Asian countries, it's common to have specific levels in hells.

If we assume that NDE's are unconsciously fabricated memories, we would expect that the local beliefs and teachings to be reflected in their descriptions of their NDE's. We would also expect diverse, incoherent descriptions.

If we assume that NDE's are true, we would expect to see a lot more coherent descriptions. Perhaps that everyone believing in "all the false religions" to describe the same hell (the hell from "the one true religion"), while everyone from "the one true religion" would describe the same heaven.

A woman in Aceh, Indonesia, was accused of an adulterous relationship with a married man. A mob of righteous citizens gang-raped her to convince her of the error of her ways. Now the shariah court wants to have her caned as well.

Has anyone here ever been caned? They used to do it in schools when I was a kid back in the Middle Ages. I got caned just once. It hurts like hell. My friend was put in hospital after a teacher caned him six times. And these people are getting 20, 30, sometimes hundreds of lashes.

Lets see, they rape children, enable child rape and cover up child rape, they try to threaten and shame their victims, and now they want the victims to just forgive them?

I can't find the words to describe their hypocrisy and lack of decency.

No, not everyone is aware of "this stuff". It demands our attention! It is as pervasive as it is precisely because people have not talked about it enough! Your suggestion is that we get talking about it out of our systems? How 'bout we use talking about it a a platform to take action! Everyone should be obsessed with these horrific behaviors. But...if you would prefer to pull an ostrich, stick your head in the sand and ignore it, have at it. Personally, I think that's damn near as immoral as the behavior being highlighted in these posts.

I think most adults or even teenagers who know how to use Google have come across Ogrish.com, TheYNC.com, etc. Obsession with this type of content isn't always a good thing. I had a friend who'd collect "Faces of Death" videos, and he eventually committed suicide at the age of 21. You don't think we talk about this stuff enough? It makes up the majority of the content of local and major news. It's broadcasted 24/7. I don't believe a thread on an atheist forum that is basically a collection of atrocities is necessarily going to cause people to "take action."

"Ogrish.com, TheYNC.com, etc."

I hadn't heard of those until you mentioned them, so I took a look. Thanks for sharing the disease.

This thread has nothing in common with those vile websites. Think back to the time immediately after WWII. The allies had just liberated the holocaust death camps. They were understandably enraged, and became even more angry when people in German communities near the camps claimed to have known nothing about it, even though they saw hundreds of thousands of people arriving in cattle trucks that left empty. So local people were taken on enforced tours of the camps to show them what had been happening in their name right under their noses.

I think many members of the religious groups mentioned in this thread might once have claimed ignorance about the abuses committed in their names by the leaders of their cults. Well they can't now. Nor can these cultists claim to have a monopoly on morality anymore.
