Fighting the good fight vs ignorance, stupidity, superstition, etc.

"Native Americans have controversially called for a complete ban on Christians of any denomination entering the US until representatives can ‘figure out what the hell is going on.’"

"“Hey, some of my best friends are Christians,” said the Chief.
“And they are good people, seriously. But until we figure out a way to tell the nice ones from the hate-filled, bigoted, war-mongering mass-killers then we’ve got to look after ourselves.”"

What a great initiative!

What a great initiative!

A group in India (ANIS) that holds shows, like a traveling magic show, but they show "miracles" and explain how the fake gurus do these miracles. They show how it works and even let people try some of it out themselves.

That's the most brilliant idea I've heard in a long time.

they will never see that day

they will never see that day in there lifetimes missionaries come and go there are exchange students, speakers etc, entering the US so that is an impossibility. Christians make the us a better place they do so much to improve the human condition.with soup kitchens and shelters and food pantries hospitals all kinds of charitable organizations they will be missed if you take the christians out of the US.all that is left of goodness would be reduced to chaos.

on my life experiences, you

on my life experiences, you take good out of society and your left with nihilism self centered selfish people.like what happened in the holocaust where there was no god just pure naturalism the horrors of mans inhumanity towards man, i can only speak of the USA look at whats taking place corruption over 2million in jails syphillis out of control among homosexual men stds, cheating wife swapping drinking drugs adult and child porn i can go on.this country i live in i can hardly reconize any more. it seems ever since the 1960``````````````s things have really gone down hill fast.

Yes. The world was so much

Yes. The world was so much better before the 1960s. That was the decade when we invented homosexuality, syphilis, child molestation.... Thank goodness for all the good christians protecting the world from evils like slavery and genocide on the North American continent in the 19th century and first half of the 20th. Even Catholic priests are being sexually corrupted in this godless new world we live in. That never happened before in all the history of the church...did it?

bigbill's picture
it was christians who led the

it was christians who led the way in abolishing slavery in england and here in the USA.the abolition movement was started by christians only 1% of catholic priest were involved in the sex scandal, and there have been reforms, i`m just stating that the period of the 1960`s was a turbulent time here in the USA.president was killed his brother, and martin king was shot dead.the communist partly was in our educational systems and government. the music changed are changed the 1960`s was a great cultural change i lived through it and i see the ramifications it has on our society today.

And Christianity and the bible were used to justify it for hundreds of years.

I lived through the sixties, too. It was a time when a lot of the old hypocrisy and privelege started to be swept away. The world before the sixties was very nice for white, middle-class males. For everyone else, not so good. You should stop pining for the 20th century and the 1st century AD and embrace the 21st. The world is getting better, despite the lingering after-effects of religion.

So, you are basing it on no

So, you are basing it on no data. If you want to base this all on mere personal experience, then I say a huge amount has improved since the 60s!

" if you take the christians out of the US"

I don't think the article said that. They were calling for a ban on Christians coming into the US, just as Donald Trump has called for a ban on Muslims. From the perspective of Native Americans/Australians or African Americans, European Christians must look like a biblical plague of terrorists, murderers, slavers, rapists and genocidal lunatics.

Would we still need soup kitchens and shelters if the world had got rid of Christianity and all the other superstitious claptrap a few centuries ago? This superstitious claptrap is such a drag on human creativity.

look at saint teresa of

look at saint teresa of calcutta this was in all places india and she did more for the poor then the humanist ever did. the rich enjoyed there life style, but saint teresa lived like the people she cared for.do you know how many people she saved and cared for? cleaned there wounds house and fed them all in the name of jesus christ she won a noble prize for her efforts.yes algebe this so called superstitious claptrap was such a drag on humanity!!!!i really see your point how ridiculous you are.

"saint teresa of calcutta"

Are you serious? She was an evil, sadistic hag who thought pain was good for the soul. She kept cancer patients suffering in agony without proper care, despite all the millions in donations she got from her jet set admirers. She denied proper medical care and pain relief to her victims while receiving advanced medical treatment for her own heart condition. She even had a pacemaker! What if she got a Nobel Prize? So did Yasser Bloody Arafat.

Conditions in India are improving, but not because of Mother Teresa or any other religious huckster. Foreign investment is driving industrial development and infrastructure improvement. Major manufacturers are establishing factories. India will soon be the world's biggest producer of automobiles. The government is working to improve law and order and public health, and there are even signs of improvements in women's rights.

It's interesting that you chose India as your example. The biggest cause of their problems has been communal strife among the various god-fantasy-cults that still fester there. Instead of building their nation, Indians have been murdering each other by the million over religious claptrap and wasting time fretting over caste differences. How would you like to be an untouchable?

Are you really so naive and gullible that you believe everything you claim to believe?

You're using an image of Jesus as your avatar that suggests a frightening level of disconnect from logic and reason.
Assuming Jesus existed, do you really think Jesus was white? With blue eyes?

What language do you think Jesus spoke? (I'll give you a hint, it wasn't American English)

bigbill's picture

jesus had the features of a middle east jewish man.most scholarship these days admits he existed.there are some sources outside the bible that have that.As for the language that he used it was aramaic spoken by palestanian jews of that period.

- "jesus had the features of a middle east jewish man"

So, do you think the image you use as an avatar, looks like a "middle east jewish man"?

Light skin, fair-haired and blue eyes. That all too common image of Jesus looks like Justin Bieber grew out his hair and a little beard, and then put in blue contact lenses to appear even more white.
Would you say that image is an accurate or an inaccurate portrayal of Jesus?

Assuming you believe in the Biblical creation:
Do you think Adam and Eve were white people, as they are often portrayed?

- "most scholarship these days admits he existed."

I didn't intend to question the historical existence of Jesus, merely asking within the hypothetical context that he did.

- "the language that he used it was aramaic spoken by palestanian jews of that period"

Exactly. Do you know what languages the original scriptures, that the Bible was complied from, was written in?

I'll take your removal of the white-blue-eyed-fair-haired-Jesus avatar as a silent admission that there was something incorrect about that image. I'm hoping that you actually start reflecting on such obviously flaws and start using some of the sceptical thinking that your name implies.

Hello, my name is Bryan. Im 16 and I've been an atheist since 6th grade. I just found this site because I needed to find a way to communicate with the world and tell everyone I'm atheist. My family is Catholic so it's pretty hard living under their conditions. Is this site really where I can be myself? I really want to talk with someone who's been using this site for a while, so please reply as soon as possible, thank you.

Hello Bryan.

Hello Bryan.

I'm a newbie here myself. I've been posting for the past couple of months. It's a great place to learn about atheism (and religion) and hone your debatng skills. I think there are a couple of people in your age group who post regularly. There's a lot of knowledge and experience here, and the quality of debate is very high.

Congratulations on your atheism, and welcome.

bigbill's picture
Bryan tell me why did you

Bryan tell me why did you chose atheism? coming from a rich tradition as catholic is, Atheism is bankrupt position to take it is the extreme form of nihilism.it is a hopeless existence with only death. While catholicism offers a rich life of sacraments to help us know god.you will find strength for everyday by receiving the eucharist. the community of your fellow catholics will support you. Why go it alone?

"it is a hopeless existence with only death"

What do you know about the existence of an atheist? My life is full of hope and fulfillment, and I am constantly enriched by relationships with other people, and by what I learn about the world and the universe. My eyes are wide open and able to see the real grandeur of existence, as opposed to your narrow vision filled by delusions about Sky-Daddy, Sonny Boy and the Spook. Death comes to us all. Wishing otherwise won't make it so. I will live every moment I have in this world, and then I'll leave it to others. Your lust for an afterlife is just the product of delusions of self-importance.

I am not sure at the moment, but my beliefs are with the theory of evolution. I just feel like its a big part of my life. I've been studying biology, chemistry and other topics and it seems that, well, God is just not in me.

One doesn't "choose" atheism.

One doesn't "choose" atheism. I cannot choose what I believe. I believe that which reason, logic and intelligence have shown me to be true. Mark Twain was right on the money when he said "faith is believing what you know ain't so."

HI brian. Welcome to AR. Its

HI brian. Welcome to AR. Its really something that you have defined your views as atheistic as early as the 6th grade. Most people like skeptical christian here and others seem to deride atheistic belief and make it an unpopular world view. Its reassuring to see a younger generation being truly skeptical rather than following the herd.

@ skeptical christian - Theistic belief in my opinion is a bankrupt view point. Your morality only exists out of fear of eternal torment. Your actions are directed solely for the purpose of eternal gratification.

atheists believe in the here and now. Our morality is based on what we can do to enhance the experience of the now without succumbing to fear of death.

You fear death and thus coddle yourself with absurd lies. then go on to confabulate more to support your unstable beliefs. We are more accepting of reality and thus more satisfied.
