Trump Promises to Protect Christians at Liberty University

Donald Trump

President Trump, during his commencement speech at Liberty University, the country's largest Christian university, told the graduating class that "in America, we don’t worship government, we worship God.” He was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Laws by Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr. on Saturday. Liberty has grown to become the nation’s fifth largest university from 1971 when it was established, and most importantly, the world’s largest Christian university. Primary goal of this Christian college was to be the one whose students would “go out in all walks of life to impact this world for God.”

Trump’s speech on Saturday was his first commencement address as president. “When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth, they prayed. When the founders wrote the Declaration of Independence, they invoked our creator four times. Because in America, we don’t worship government, we worship God,” Trump said. "It is why our currency proudly declares, 'In God We Trust,'" Trump continued. "And it is why we proudly proclaim that we are one nation, under God, every time we say the Pledge of Allegiance."

“America is better when people put their faith into action,” Trump added. “As long as I am your president no one is ever going to stop you from practicing your faith or from preaching what’s in your heart. We will always stand up for the right of all Americans to pray to God and to follow his teachings.” Trump’s speech on Saturday followed the controversy over Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating charges of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election, including possible collusion between Moscow and Trump's campaign.

It is understandable and desirable that the president of one country cares and protects citizens but it should be applied to all people regardless of their religion or color. What about “religious nones” or Muslim or Jewish people that live in America? Who will protect and fight for them?

"President Trump ventured into politics at a time when our nation has never been more polarized," Falwell said before calling on Trump to accept the degree.  “I do not believe that any president in our lifetimes has done so much that has benefited the Christian community in such a short timespan than Donald Trump,” Falwell added.
