An analogy for explaining evolution

Hello all,

I am new to these forums so forgive me if this is in the wrong section.

A little about me:

I was raised strict Catholic. I became a Deist in my early twenties. About 6 months ago I became "saved" as a Christian (mostly due to peer pressure and longing for a sense of unity). I started a habit of opening to random passages in the bible and this habit led me to Leviticus 20:10 which in turn led me to serious contradictions in the New Testament. In addition I was studying philosophy and seriously questioning my beliefs. I decided to hear the other side for once and researched atheism. This led me to The God Delusion, which in turn led me to becoming a full fledged Atheist.

I was utterly astounded by how little I knew about evolution and decided to read The Origin of Species. While reading the first chapter it occurred to me a simple way to explain evolution to those who refuse to acknowledge it exists at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if this analogy has been mentioned before as Darwin practically said it himself, but here it is anyway.

A miniature poodle surely does not exist in the wild. How is this? A poodle was breed over generations by dog breeders. A breeder chose certain traits that they wanted and breed only those with those traits.
Evolution is very similar to a dog breeder, nature chooses which breeds survive on to mate and which do not through things like weather, food sources, predators, etc.

Not sure what you are getting

Not sure what you are getting at here? But welcome to the boards and I am glad you are now out to the religious paradigm and can think outside that box.

It is weird the many things we as humans have breed dogs into though and yes nature has a way of doing this to us as well. It is crazy when you think about it and realize though that natures versions of a dog are more like the wolf coyote and dingo and what humans have come up with through selective breeding.
