'Father Ted'

I have long enjoyed British comedy. 'Father Ted' is one of my all time favorites. As an Irish-Cherokee American and an Atheist, I can relate to this program. Many of the episodes are parodies of movies and mainstream American TV shows. All are shows that illustrate the absolute ridiculousness of the Catholic church.
The British have no problem making fun of their religions.
'The Vicar of Dibley'
'Rev.'
To name a few.
Please share if you have any comedy shows that poke fun at religion.

I've watched the Fr. Ted

I've watched the Fr. Ted series at least half a dozen times! Nice to know another fan. Makes me a bit sad, tho, that most of them are dead now...always tough to lose great comedic actors.

Monty Python poked fun at religion quite frequently. I can't see an image of the xtian nailed god without "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" running thru my head.

I like The Young Ones.Neil

I like The Young Ones.Neil was always trying commit suicide nailing himself to a cross. The series ran from 1982-1984 in Britain.

It's a bit long, but amusing

It's a bit long, but amusing to watch...
"In 1979, shortly after the release of their film Life of Brian, Monty Python members Michael Palin and John Cleese appeared on BBC Two's Friday Night, Saturday Morning to debate the film with Roman Catholic journalist and satirist Malcolm Muggeridge and the Bishop of Southwark, Mervyn Stockwood."

And then it gets more amusing to watch when Not the Nine O'Clock News made fun of that debate...

I prefer the US comedies: Two

I prefer the US comedies: Two & a Half Men, Third Rock, Simpson's. Very well observed and far funnier than current British fare. Could do with some new blood as there seems a bit of a dry spell now. Dara O'Briain's consistently good over 'ere.

You have to be kidding.

You have to be kidding.
1. The British are famous for their dry sense of humor.
2. British writers are better educated overall.
3. The American writers and comedians have dumbed down the humor to a base level to appeal to an uneducated unsophisticated American market(thanks republicans), so that 'Dumb and Dumber' is considered a comedy classic.
Two & a half men is so base and crude that I can't believe any Brit would thnk it anything but the trash that it is.

I am American, and I recognize that American humor is a fail in the last 20 years.

This is not a TV show but it

This is not a TV show but it is American and definitely pokes fun at religion: "Greasers Palace" . Directed by Robert Downey Sr, Subtitled "Jesus in a Zoot Suit". Came out in the early 70's. Too funny and bizarre to explain.

The Simpsons satirizes

The Simpsons satirizes religion quite often. One scene has Stryper (The first and worst of Christian rock bands ) appearing at their church. Bart Simpson casually states "All the best music is affiliated with Satan!".

but who's going to tell them?! :-)
I expect they stuck "Made in USA" and "My other airplane's an F35" on the back of their Hawker Harriers!
(USA later developed their own harriers.)

The Army Game and Navy Lark spawned a whole genre, from Sgt Bilko (USA) to Bootsy & Smudge and Dad's Army (UK)...

That's my point about British

That's my point about British comedy vs. American comedy. Sgt. Bilko was a great comedy that relied heavily on the writing genius of Phil Silvers and his staff. Nowadays the writers in the USA rely on bathroom humor or inane humor that isn't even funny like 'Jackass'. Tom Green was a pioneer in this bad humor.
The only funny shows with REAL intellectual humor are political like the 'Daily Show'.

Their are some american shows

Their are some american shows that ridicule religion, mainly adult cartoons.. Seth Mcfarlane is an atheist, who produces and voices some of the hit shows family guy, american dad, cleavlend show and more.

The producers of south park are atheists that ridicule religion alot aswell.. Simpsons also ridicule religion..

I like Seth Mcfarlane. He is

I like Seth Mcfarlane. He is a comic genius but cartoons? Cartoons, really? It shows how immature the American audience has become.
