Wow, it is intense how atheism is considered to be so taboo in many communities and even by mainstream media. It is challenging to go against the grain but it does make life so much more exciting and gratifying.
Completely agree. Maybe it's maturity, maybe it's becoming a father (that's certainly part of it), but I've never been happier. I've rediscovered my love for science and knowledge, I'm trying to juggle full-time work, a part-time University degree, plus being a husband and father, but I've NEVER been happier or more content or more thrilled to be living in this era.
To me it's not unlike being gay in the 1960s or 1970s, atheists will be reviled and ignored until there's enough of us around, then one day there will be acceptance. Either way I'm not changing now!

The nasty secret here is that the taboo aganst atheism is even worse than the taboo against gays. Gays and lesbians can run for office, and sometimes win. But atheists? Name an openly atheist politician in a major office, other than Kyrsten Sinema. Anti-atheist bigotry will be the last major acceptable form of bigotry, long after same-sex marriage is the law of the land.
I never get how depates between religion and atheism are fun. They are just frustraiting. On a debate, you usually have 2 or more people with strong ties with his faith and no one of them will convert, you just get angry and more angry no matter what side are you with. We just promote violence with these debates and as religious people tend to fight for God and kill everyone which isn't like them (cough* USA *cough) we are just building anger in some primitive creatures that can only express themselfes by force. We are getting ourself mocked, beaten, killed etc. for no reason. We need to simply stay at our desk, live our lifes, don't bother with arguments so much against a strong beliver. Religion destroys friendships (trust me). I don't say to give up and become one of them, i say that no one will get converted, or at least, not in a direct way. You will choose your own paths and a angry debate won't help at all.
As for this O'Reilly, we still have to live along with these elderly fanatics...the younger belivers aren't that...stupid or angry, at least some of them. And as i can see, the old man is (sadly) the typical semi-intelligent brainwashed american (no offense, we all have our idiots). Our only hope is to wait and raise the younger generations using logic and morals.
