Hello.....

Some might know me from Twitter as Mark Alien. I am a 58 yo male who left Christianity when I was 51...I know, what took me so long?... I would tell you but it's a long story that took over 40yrs to complete. Maybe as I get more comfortable on the forum I will say more.

In the meantime.....Cheers

Howdy, Mark! Welcome to our little isle of (in)sanity... *grin*... Come on in and make yourself at home.

Just so you know, I am 51 and did not fully escape the bonds of my religious upbringing until I was 49. So I can totally relate to the frustration and anxiety of fighting against all those years of childhood indoctrination. That shit ain't fun. But - hey - I did finally overcome it, and life is good. That's what counts.

Again, welcome. Look around, get comfy, and jump in on discussions whenever you feel froggy. Good people here.

Welcome mate. Be careful not to slip on any of Tin Man's oil stains, he keeps leaving them around...well we HOPE they are oil stains. The other stains you will see are from Cognostic and the other primates he has around. Their idea of fun is a Friday Night Poo Fling...best to keep a supply of bananas when in the house.

Otherwise the rest of the crew are relatively sane ( relative to a ship full of screaming lunatics all off their meds). Join in have fun, leave some meat on the theists' bones for the latecomers...

General rule of thumb is if it is slick/slippery, it is oil. But if it is sticky or crusty, wellllllllll.... *shrugging shoulders*.... *whistling innocently*...

Hello Mark Alien.

Hello Mark Alien.

I wonder if my story is similar to yours. I am now 68, but grew up in a practicing protestant family. In my very late teens I realized that (for me) religion was more of a social club than a place to worship, and turned my back on organized religion. But I always clung on, and searched for some form of spiritual, I guess you would call it, guidance. I tried everything I could think of, from getting down in my knees in the very late hours at a house of worship and asking for a sign, to many years researching different beliefs. I spoke to many men of the cloth, name a religion I probably had long and respectful discussions with their holy men.

But the results were always the same, nothing. With the advent of the internet and Youtube, I started watching such videos as Matt Dillahunty, Those videos clarified my muddy thinking, and put things in a much more logical and rational order. And the net result was that I realized that the proof or evidence of any god was zero.

When I did have this epiphany, that I was an atheist, I was liberated from the evil and cruelty of religion, and life has been great. Couple that with the interesting and wonderful exchanges of information and opinions in this wonderful forum, I never stop learning and growing as a person.
