Help for questioning Muslims/ex-Muslims

Dear AR family,

As an outspoken atheist who spends much of my time in Morocco, I have had a number of close friends voice their doubts about Islam to me because they have nobody else they can turn to. One of my best friends recently shocked me by saying "I am no longer Muslim". Of course I was thrilled for him, but I also worry about his well-being as he's still living at home and I can only imagine how lonely he must be feeling most of the time.

To those of you brave enough to follow your hearts and leave this hateful cult you were born into, what advice would you give a girl living in a free Western society who wants to offer real and practical help/support to these most vulnerable minorities stuck in Islamic societies?

Hi North! Welcome...

Hi North! Welcome...
Your friends, foremost, have to be physically safe. Some of the stories are incredible, of those that leave. I had one exIslamic friend who changed his identity.

I like asking them why all the early mosques face Petra and not Mecca.
Muhammad was born in Petra and the Quaran backs it up.

"I like asking them why all the early mosques face Petra and not Mecca.

I didn't know that.My response is 'Meh" (so what?) Islam is largely based on Jewish mythology from the Torah.
THE point about praying towards Mecca is that it seems ALL muslims follow that rule; it's inclusive. Does not necessarily have anything to do with reality . A great many Muslims think the Kaaba in Mecca was the first place of worship built by Isaac and Ishmael---I won't even start on the dome of the rock, in Jerusalem.

As with Yeshua bar Yusuf, imo ,the historicity of the Prophet is irrelevant. Especially since the most fervent members of religions seem to be found among the poor, the ignorant and the stupid. They will believe regardless of the evidence, just like millions of christians and their superstitions. .

Imo it is no more reasonable to speak of Islam in a general sense than to do so of christianity. IMO ,to dismiss a major world religion with a billion followers as "a hateful cult 'is a bit simplistic and intellectually lazy. Certainly not my life experience with living in a Muslim country. .

----that there are two very different views between two perceptive, experienced people, based on direct experience** suggests to me that either or both views may be incorrect.
