Well that didnt take too long

Well that didnt take too long.
Just near on 100 years ago, former Young Turk rebel, Mustafa Attaturk, Hero of Gallipoli, dragged Turkey out of its own repressive pre WW1 dark ages towards a bright new modern secular future adopting many Western initiatives and freedoms.
Now the Islamic backed government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is wilfully pushing the country back down into the ignorant cesspit rule of theology.
The corrosive power of religion never sleeps.

edited later.... And I am starting to recall the long slide backwards started 20(?) years ago with muslim clerics in Turkey protesting about women who refused to cover their heads in public with a scarf and the targets seemed to be female academic university lecturers. It all starts with plaintive cries for women to cover their heads, now they have to marry their rapists. Attaturk wept.

Makes you wonder what the

Makes you wonder what the fuck century we are living in, doesn't it? How in the fuck do people come up with this stuff in an age of internet, touch button information, international flights, and freedom of information? Human beings are really that fucked up?

Imagine going there and protesting. You would be locked in a cage, beaten, or worse. It's insanity.

Re: The lawmakers suggesting

Re: The lawmakers suggesting that ludicrous law

Umm... Hmmm.... So, I was wondering... Any chance there might be a way to round up all the cretins who think that law is a good idea? And once rounded up, maybe take them all on a cruise out to the middle of the ocean? And once out in the middle of the ocean, maybe chain heavy weights to their wrists and ankles? And then maybe toss them overboard to give them free swimming lessons? I'd be happy to pay for the fuel for the boat. Oh, and don't forget, in order to cover your ass, make sure there are multiple signs clearly posted announcing "No Lifeguard On Duty. Swim At Own Risk."
