A New Pledge of Allegiance

Many here already know the US Pledge. Here is how it has changed.

Pledge of Allegiance
(Bellamy versions)
(changes are bolded)

1892 (first version)
"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

1892 to 1923
"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

1923 to 1954
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

1954 to present (current version)
Title 4 U.S.C. §4
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

New Project

How would you write a Pledge of Allegiance that is completely neutral. For me, my pledge is simple, "I pledge allegiance to all humanity."

What are some other ideas everyone here may have?

I have never been a flag

I have never been a flag waver. I stopped saying the pledge in 6th grade. If my country's vision and actions are worth supporting I will make that judgement on a day to day basis. America! The greatest country in history? Convince me!

I don't believe in forcing

I don't believe in forcing children to recite anything except maybe their times tables. I got through my entire schooling in two Commonwealth countries without once having to pledge allegiance to the Queen.

If the country or the flag want my allegiance, let them earn it.

The point of the pledge is to

The point of the pledge is to create loyalty to a country. "All humanity" just does not work. Who would we kill for not being free like us? This probably explains why America has dropped to 27 in world rankings for education. An enlightened public just does not need a pledge and that scares the hell out of the government.

The new pledge should be something like. "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America and to the Police State which it has become both here and Abroad. I promise to be a good citizen and allow the state to legislate morality at home and abroad. If I screw up I will do my jail time proudly.
