A new pope....

I am dismayed at the large number of atheists speaking in support of the NEW and IMPROVED pope. He has "said" some GREAT things, we are told, and even Time magazine names him MAN of the YEAR, though only in power for 8 months. According to various sources, including the resume' and public record of the "Media Consultant" Burke, bear in mind he is an ultraconservative cult member, spinning a conservative (Considered TOO conservative by many in the Vatican) cult leader as a "liberal". Be careful. The first casualty in any war is the truth. No, we needn't resort to hate-speech, but understand your enemy. Read the Art of War by Sun Tzu, and you'll know where we stand.
Do your homework, embrace an intelligent skepticism, and research, for we have history to teach us, we have current events to remind us that we are in the vanguard. The pen IS mightier than a sword, so wield it effectively.

This new pope has something

This new pope has something none of the other popes had and that is his humble way of living. He doesnt care for all the luxuries and he is very open minded in comparison to the rest.

He is nothing more then a public relations attempt to make people like the church again. He says so many beautiful things and ACTS like a proper christian but it is business as usual behind the curtain. People forget that the church is the LARGEST multinational corporation on the planet. They are a country that does not have ANY type of agreement with anyone in any law enforcement agency anywhere. They make their own laws and have their own central bank. They MAKE policy and decide which third or forth world country get a new water project. Of course this only happens if that country is full of good christian's who cow down to the church. He will slip up and show his true face just give it time.

When the pope does something

When the pope does something about the child rape, then I will reevaluate my opinion on the POS.

How about making it so that

How about making it so that priests cannot be left alone with children without some of the nuns also being present? There would probably still be some abuse, but it would prevent a lot of it.

I disagree entirely with the

I disagree entirely with the dismay with the new pope as expressed with the OP.

My first objection is based upon the principle that atheists must view theists/deists as an enemy or opponent. All I can think is what is the basis od that? Accepting that deists/theists are an enemy to atheists means that we are just another cult with competing views and that establishing the superiority of our view(deity) by the traditional sword would be acceptable.

My second objection is predicated upon the fact that the new pope appears to be a good, just and fair man. If those observations are correct, than someone needs to explain to me the merits of a philosophical system that considers a good, just and fair man as an enemy.

I am an ex-Catholic who cannot accept the concept of a divine being who possesses the slightest interest in the human race. By definition, that means that I cannot accept anything that organized religion preaches or promises. But nowhere within those parameters is the requirement that I spurn, categorically, a person who professes a belief in a deity.

The new pope appears to be a good man. If every religious believer adhered 100% to the precepts of their faith, Than the world world be a good place and there might be no place for atheists. Unfortunately, almost every believer uses the Chinese buffet method of choosing which principles to adhere to and then hides behind mortal fallibility to justify any and all transgressions.

So I applaud the efforts and apparent long range hopes of the new pope.

As I opened the site today,

As I opened the site today, (19/01/14) this was the news item which greeted me.
"Vatican Refuses to Hand Over Archbishop Accused of Child Sex Abuse."

Whatever goodwill Frankie had managed to engender in me, after the detestation Ratzo had caused, was washed away. Until further notice it will be "New pope, same as the old pope".
