So… How many websites have you been banned from?

The problem with individual thought nowadays is that it's such a rarity.

Not following any one cult mentality and not joining any one particular tribe will result in banning from everywhere. They want to put a label on everyone and allow only one side to get through.

In addition to Reddit sitewide permanent ban following permanent bans from subreddits LGBT, The_Donald, Libertarians, Libertarian, AskLibertarians, I have been banned from Quora and a few other smaller sites.

On Twitter, I'm temporarily auto-suspended (going on two months) for violating community guidelines (rebuking the CDC).

It's getting easier for PR people to manipulate groups this way. Individual thought is getting steamrolled by angry tribes :-(

I was banned from Yahoo Answers for quoting the bible. I kid you not.

Three. All Christian.

Three. All Christian. Usually within the first hour or so. All I did was ask a few questions-------

Oh yeah, there was also an Egyptology site. Didn't realise it was based in Cairo until after I had joined. All Idid was to reject the claim of the Quran as history. --those fuckers were nuts. I mean, who makes death threats on an internet forum? So I left before I was banned.

I've been on a lot of Atheist forums over many years. I have my own modus. Once I have offended x number of people, it occurs to me that the problem is mine not theirs and I simply stop posting. Before joining this forum my record was 18 months.

Atheist Republic seems OK. I learn a lot. I think I may also have mellowed a bit.

Without intending flattery, this forum is also one of the best moderated forums of which I've been a member.

Indeed.

I lived in a Muslim country (Malaysia) decades before Islam and Muslims became the boogey man with which the unthinking classes frighten their recalcitrant children today.

Even then, I can assure you that I was very careful about what I said. From being in the right place at the right timeI was able to spend a lot of my free time in a local Kampong. There I got to know some Malays (muslims) I was always treated with great kindness and respect. I did my best to behave the same way.

---I DID see the other side, my battalion arrived in Malaysia in March 1969. The race riots began in May. It was the Muslims who
ran the country politically, against the' pig eating Chinese' who owned it. There were no Chinese in the police or army. There was a a dusk to dawn curfew impose. Officially, several hundred Chinese were killed by the police and army. Willing to bet the real figures are multiples of the official figures. I cannot remember hearing of any Muslim Malay deaths.

Malaysia still has religious police and an apostate muslim can be sent to prison for 2 years. It is a criminal offence to offer alcohol to a Muslim or to try to convert a Muslim to another faith. It is an offence for a Muslim to be seen eating or drinking in public during Ramadan in daylight hours,.

Having said that, in my village, no women covered their hair.

I was last in Malaysia in 2000. I stayed in Kuala Lumpur. I noticed that some school girls wore hijab. During the time I was there, I saw no woman wearing burqa, but one wearing niqab . She trotted 3 paces behind the strutting male, who was dressed in light trousers and open neck shirt. The concierge at the hotel was embarrassed, and made a point of telling me they were from 'one of the gulf states'

interesting!

random ppl throwing meaningless threats aside. The scariest I got to was when a member of an extremist cult wanted to have members of the cult track me down and kidnap me when he heard rumors that I am atheist. luckily didn't happen tho (without getting into much detail)

We have no religious police here thankfully. Most shitty religion-related actions are done by individual members of extremist religious cults. and thankfully declining over time cuz the government is getting stricter in their fight against terrorism.

"insulting religion" is an official crime here. usually used more for political reasons tho.

People get banned from here

People get banned from here as well. Each site / forum has its own set of standards, rules, and guidelines. They are not publicly owned so can be managed however the owner(s) decree. Is that cult mentality? Maybe, maybe not. You can, I suppose, call it whatever you like. I’d also suppose that if one wanted a forum where anything goes, so to speak, they wouldn’t be prevented from starting one.

"There is also a difference between a cult and a clique."

Indeed.

Over many years ,I have been both a member of certain work cliques and a victim of such cliques.

I've also been a member of many forums over many years. Mostly atheist, but not all. Without exception so far every forum has a dominant clique. Larger forums tend to have several.

I'm neither criticising nor apologising, only observing,

The AR is the only site like

The AR is the only site like this I have ever joined. Therefore, I have no personal experience with any other type of chat sites. Although, based on what I have heard here and elsewhere about other sites, I consider myself quite fortunate to have found this place. Yes, people do get banned from here, but they really have to go above and beyond in order to reach that point. Personally, I like the fact people are allowed on here to express their beliefs, whether I agree with them (or like them) or not. It is a great way to learn, in my opinion. But nobody is allowed to get away with making personal threats to other members, and any type of racial/gender/homophobic slurs are not tolerated. I also like that.

My wife was a moderator on a couple of different religion debate sites for awhile a few months ago. Naturally, I got to hear about many of the discussions that were being held on them. Some of those "discussions" were absolutely cringe worthy. And as much as she tried to keep things under control, the guy who owned one of the sites was no better than many of the known troublemakers at times. Since she does not tolerate such hypocrisy very well, she bid them farewell and pretty much just sticks with FB now... *chuckle*...

I was once a moderator on a torrent site. I was cashiered for trying to ban a bloke for sexist comments. (really) Decided that gig (moderating) really isn't worth the candle. Moderators should be paid imo.

Let me see.... I've got that

Let me see.... I've got that list somewhere.......
Free Live Sex Chat, Hamster Porn, Quest XXX, Lonely Guy, Nuns on the Run, Summer with Santa, Sex Addicts, Stroke, Real Lady Boys Live Chat, Magic Machines (Tin gave me the link for this one.), Over 50 XXX, Over 60 XXX, Over 70 XXX, Over 80 XXX, Over XXX XXX. And probably a few I have forgotten. My favorite site that I am no longer allowed to visit is "The Magic Banana."

Hey, you forgot to mention Metal Head and Jello Juggies. You told me those two were your favorites... (aside from Banana Creampies, of course).

Like Tin, this is the first

Like Tin, this is the first site I’ve joined. Years ago, some odd 20 - I had joined an ex-JW site and it had helped me at that time.

I don’t know what made me join this site, or even how I found it, but I’m glad I did.

So no, never been banned from a site.

Psssttttt.... a quick “browser history search” will demonstrate that Cog is lying - he has not been “banned” from all those sites - in fact, he’s added a few more to his list ...

Right now there is a member very aptly named for Homer Simpson (an example of truth in advertising) who's getting on me wick.

...I don’t know. I just sorta went with the flow. Even if I did know I wouldn’t use it - I prefer a public flogging.

If you stop taking the “blue pill” I’m sure Homer will have nothing to ride :) re: “ who's getting on me wick”

Never been banned. In fact, I

Never been banned. In fact, I have been highly active in some sites and had a leadership role. For a few years I was a mod in a high traffic technical racing forum.

But my approach may differ from the OP. I dip my toes in the water first, and get an idea of the flavor and intensity of the site. And although I seek change and an exchange of ideas, I do not show up like a cannonball in a kiddie's pool.

It is very simple. Figure out what the forum is really like before they figure out what you are.
