University communities

I miss being in a college town. When I was attending Humboldt State in Northern Cali I was in such a scientific community that frequently hosted seminars and gatherings - I always had something to do and people to meet! I moved away a few years ago and have since been in a predominantly religious community where there is nothing going on in the community that is geared towards science or learning. I've been so bored -_- What have your experiences been?

My experiences with Humbolt

My experiences with Humboldt were, how can I say this, very much in line with higher education! But yeah, I always have been kind of partial to college towns. Two of my favorite college towns were Northampton MA and Ashland OR.

haha you were in Humboldt?

haha you were in Humboldt? Yea they definitely enjoy being high up there ;) I actually heard a statistic about Humboldt County having the most scientists within a certain range.. Only other university I've attended was Cal State Northridge in LA which was more geared towards business and journalism. Oregon sounds like a cool place to observe.

Just imagine a day when there

Just imagine a day when there will be atheist groups officially allowed in colleges. I think it will take a few more decades but we might see it happening sooner than later.

A community college I

A community college I attended had a secular group that was geared towards Atheists and related. I did not hear about Atheist groups at the universities I attended though.. I am not sure if there were even religious groups...? I'll have to look that up.

At the community college I

At the community college I attend, I don't think there's an atheist/secular club. However, there IS a Christian group whose members hand out flyers, hold a bible study on the lawn, and can be rather annoying when you're en route to class and they won't leave you alone (happened to me once-now I know to avoid walking by their table or the bible-selling booth)

Perhaps you could set an

Perhaps you could set an Atheist group up and in friendly discourse perhaps the two groups could get together once a year for a paintball showdown! JK but it would be fun/funny!

The day we see atheist groups

The day we see atheist groups that are free to promote their campus activities we will be at another level of evolution.

Where are you located Zaphod?

Where are you located Zaphod? I've only come across one very vocal atheist group here in So Cal, they set up a table at a well known street fair with a sign "Ask an Atheist." I've never gone to this street fair to check out their booth but I think "Ask an Atheist" is much more welcoming than picketing and handing out bibles that I've seen religious people do lol.
