The origin of religion

Hi there,

Have you ever tried to put yourself into the mind of an emerging human?

Very very tricky, we do not even know how far back that would be, 200,000 years, 1 million years or more?

I have a sneaking suspicion that it has been with us all the time from the emergence of life itself.
Not religion but subservience to one of the creatures who dominates the group.

You can see that today in just about every animal social group.

Little wonder then that we are preconditioned to the concept.

We, as a species with our wonderful world of gadgets and space travel are still so bound by our hard wired development.

Anyway, over the years I have changed from thinking it all started as wonder at the natural world and the amazing view of the universe but now I am more convinced it is all about power.

The problem with power is as we all know, it is so corrupting and becomes a destructive thing.

So, my question remains.

Cheers,
Colin

I don't see humans wanting to be corrupt in my view, it appears that humans see themselves walking a straight line when everyone else can see the opposite.

Religion is like a walking a straight path, but people not in religion can see that the religious people walk in circles or unclear direction. The religious people don't even know they are drunk aimlessly walking.

The origin of religion

I agree with you, It is clear from history that most humans like to have a leader, a person that is responsible and takes care of stuff.
The diversity amongst humans makes some of them want that position and those people are power hungry.
Unfortunately, people with the right motivation tend to get what they want in this world.

That is the main reason we have so much corruption, because people that want power so badly are ready to do everything to get it.
Religion was a way in the past to both obtain power and control the masses.

It is easier to have stability if your people consider you as god or chosen by god.
This helps to convince people that what ever you want is the best thing for them.
So what even was the origin of religion, one of the main reasons for it's creation was this.
