Because there exists an all powerful divine magician who can rid the world of all its problems and help the sufferers in life or after death, we don't have to. And I believe that was the foundation of religion- despair and inability (lack of conviction if you ask me). We created a healer so we didn't have to be one. The first two steps towards healing the world is accepting the existence of the injury and then locating it. We need to accept that the world is full of pains, miseries, despair and cries and we need to deal with it. We cannot pass our buck to magic. Only we can for magic isn't real so we need to struggle to make the world a better place, not for redemption or for heaven but to reduce pain and despair of the sufferer and thus our own. Therein lies your solace.
