Majority of Egyptians Believe Religious Extremism is a Prevailing Problem

According to a recent poll conducted by the Egyptian Centre for Public Opinion Research, approximately 63 percent of Egyptians believe religious extremism is a prevailing problem in their country.

The poll’s result showed that 25 percent of Egyptians disagree with the notion that there is any amount of religious extremism in Egypt while 12 percent of Egyptians continue to be undecided. Additionally, 59 percent of Egyptians believe religious extremism is the reason for Egypt’s negative image in the west.

Maged Osman, the centre’s head, said in a statement that 57 percent of the respondents believe religious extremism would severely affect tourism, 13 percent of the respondents believe religious extremism would moderately affect tourism, 6 percent of the respondents believe religious extremism will only slightly affect tourism and 19 percent of the respondents believe religious extremism will not affect tourism in the country. Five percent of the respondents were still undecided about the matter.

The poll was carried out on a sample population of 1,024 individuals, aged 18 years and above.
