New Orleans: Pastor Drops Dead After Saying He Is Ready to Die for God

Kenneth Green

A pastor in New Orleans dropped dead all of a sudden while delivering a sermon at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church on May 3 after telling the congregation that he was ready to give up his life, if the Lord called upon him. Kenneth Green, 56, was preaching from the Book of Psalms and he made the ironic statement shortly before falling to the ground, said a churchgoer Joan Martin.

He said, “If the Lord called me now, I'm ready” and shockingly dropped dead immediately after.

Green’s unexpected death shocked the congregation, as Martin burst into tears when she saw the pastor fall to the ground.

“He took a swallow of water, before he took water he wiped his face, and then he looked up and it looked like his eyes were rolled back, like there was no life in his eyes, and he tumbled over. Everybody was in a state of shock people were crying,” she said.

Paramedics arrived at the scene soon after but they were unsuccessful in reviving Green.

Martin explained how Green was a kind man who was ready to help any person that was in need of prayer and service. She said that he also visited the ill and the elderly at a local hospital regularly to give them hope and tended to the homeless to make them feel less ostracized.

Green, who had buried both of Martin’s sons, also offered her a shoulder to cry on during her time of grieving. While speaking to the media, Martin urged people to remember the pastor as a man of God, who died while serving humanity and spreading the word of the Lord.

“Remember his love for God and the work he did for God, and how he tried to be everything for everybody,” she said.

Church members are still in shock with Green’s death, since he did not have any known health condition that could have possibly cost him his life this suddenly. After serving as a pastor at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church for eight years, Green has left behind a wife and three children.
