While a new wave of atheism is picking up pace across the world and doing so rather quickly because of improved communication technology that is available today, the movement is under some control in Egypt, said Ibrahim Negm, advisor to the Grand Mufti. He also said that Dar al-Iftaa, Egypt’s topmost authority tasked with issuing religious opinions, would soon be conducting seminars to educate citizens about religion and refute the ideologies being propagated by atheists.

Negm explained how important it is to propagate correct religious awareness, especially during times when traditional religious scholars are facing a lot of negative criticism because of extremist ideologies that are prevalent in the Islamic world. He believes it is these fallacies that advocates of atheism are capitalizing on to create further intellectual and sexual perversion among people.

Negm also shared information about an international meeting that Dar al Iftaa plans to organize wherein Muftis from around the world would be invited to discuss the various challenges being faced by Muslims today. Since Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi requested Al Azhar to implement necessary religious reforms and Dar al Iftaa to counter terrorism in the country, both bodies have held several conferences and seminars to achieve the same.
