evolution/God at it again

Only a complete fool would deny the irrefutible evidence of evolution. Another fossil was found in Etheopia...a jaw bone with some teeth still remaining...scientists date it back to approx. 300 million years ago, and think they can link it to the first human species. Denying evolution is like staring directly at something and refusing to acknowledge that it is there. By the way...God is at it again...killing people...heat wave in India ( act of God) has killed at least 1500 people and counting... temperatures have soared to 118 degrees farenheight...it hasn't rained there in years, they are hoping for a monsoon next week to bring relief. Okla. and Texas have had torrential rains for about 10 days now ( act of God)...some areas recieving up to 20 inches of rain!! 25 people have been killed, and another 11 are missing. In Malawi,a person starves to death every 4 seconds...it dosen't rain, and there is not enough food...a region created by God!!! Oh God, why are you doing this!!! Why must you allow innocent people to die by your hand?? This has nothing to do with "free will"...unless it is Gods free will...don't forget, He has a plan, whatever it is...I guess all this is Gods Will... He has a plan!!!

Unbelievable, Ron!! That is

Unbelievable, Ron!! That is the typical theist excuse for God "creating" ( thats what theists believe, right...that He created everything...unless, He only creates the GOOD things) these horrendous conditions described above...it's His plan, but the "plan" isn't going so well, so He then " works in mysterious ways," because they can't explain it!! Oh, I've heard THAT one before!!

Common sense ain't so common.

Common sense ain't so common. If someone makes like people don't have it they're accused of being insensitive towards other people. If they make like they do they're accused of showing a lack of intelligence about other people. That's just talking something as innocuous as common sense. The point being there's two camps.

Remove common sense and replace it with god and you can get killed for thinking similarly, or praised for your insight. It comes down to which camp you're in at the time. Location is everything. Here behind a keyboard sipping a coffee I'm safe within my fortress. I can point out anything and everything about people and what bugs me about them. Outside, not so much. Gotta be careful out there.

Atheism is a funny thing. It's suppose to be dismissive of theism yet here we are taking shots at it from our respective fortresses. I'm as guilty of that as anyone, I suppose. Theists won't suffer it so they don't need to duck. Tell me then what the purpose of deriding theism is. I'm not condoning a silent departure and closing down the site simply to show solidarity with a philosophy. I just think that theism is not moved by a few unbelievers and there's no victory to be found in that kind of apathy. That leaves the atheists a bunch of malcontents mumbling to themselves and for all the world appearing to be a couple cards short of a full deck.

I agree that no matter how

I agree that no matter how much info to the contrary, theism will not be going anywhere. It just feels good to have a place where you can state your feelings, get certain things off your chest, that you could not talk to most of the general public on the outside, without being attacked, thats all.

I don't quite agree.

I don't quite agree.
I definitively think that theism is going to be marginalized. It probably won't go away completely, but it will become a minority.

Kids growing up in the information age will be hard to keep ignorant and submissive. Every day news of the horrors of theism is noticed and spread on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. The trend is already showing clearly in the US. The more people that openly state that they are atheists, the more people will dare to "come out". I'm hoping for an avalanche effect.

The non-secular states are the once who will be able to cling on the longest, but their constant violation of human rights, in combination with the unstoppable flow of information will eventually make them implode.
To me the question isn't "if" but "when".

I agree and the unstoppable flow of information will influence many to leave their country rather than live a lie and risk death in some of the muslim countries. It is inevitable.

Do you think there is, say, a

Do you think there is, say, a critical mass (so to speak) for religion? A point at which it will become so intangible, so distant, to the majority of people, that it begins to decay at an ever increasing rate?

ThePragmatic's picture
Yes, that could be one way do

Yes, that could be one way do describe it.
But that point is probably different in different parts in the world and within countries.

I just read an article the other day, that states that more teens are now considering themselves as atheist than ever before. Gives me hope for the next-generation.

Exactly. I'm hoping that this

Exactly. I'm hoping that this is part of the effect I'm talking about above.

Kenny - "300 million years

Kenny - "300 million years ago, and think they can link it to the first human species"

Let's say I'm rather skeptical of that claim Kenny.

Hmm, yes. Isn't that more

Hmm, yes. Isn't that more like 3 million years ago?

Welcome back, where have you been Nyarlathotep? :)
It seems we have been mistaken about 'reality' being one of Kenny's alter egos.

It was an article that was in the local newspaper. I thought I read it at 300 million...maybe I was misunderstood it. But regardless.. the fossil is THERE!! It is proof of something...THAT is my point...does it really matter how many MILLIONS of years we are talking about?? Evolution is an absolute FACT!! I will not respond to the Kenny nonsense.

ThePragmatic's picture
Yup, the evidence is there

Yup, the evidence is there and as long as it is older than the 6000 or 10000 or 12000 years (or whatever biblically derived number) that the young earth creationists claim, they have a major problem of bringing evidence to the table.

No, no, no! God created

No, no, no! God created everything in 4004 BC. However, in his infinite power and wisdom, he made it seem as if the universe started with the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago, seem as if the Solar System was formed 4.6 bya and seem that life on Earth evolved the way it did. See, easy ;-)
