Frank Sinatra: An Atheist?

In a 1963 interview with Playboy, singer Frank Sinatra was asked the following questions:

Playboy: Are you a religious man?

Sinatra: "I believe in nature, in the birds, the sea, the sky, in everything I can see or that there is real evidence for. If these things are what you mean by God, then I believe in God. But I don't believe in a personal God to whom I look for comfort or for a natural on the next roll of the dice".

Does this sound like Atheism to you?

That reminds me of a quote by

That reminds me of a quote by Frank Lloyd Wright, “I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.” It does sound like atheism but more skepticism than anything.

Frank Sinatra: "There are things about organized religion which I resent. Christ is revered as the Prince of Peace, but more blood has been shed in His name than any other figure in history. You show me one step forward in the name of religion and I'll show you a hundred retrogressions. Remember, they were men of God who destroyed the educational treasures at Alexandria, who perpetrated the Inquisition in Spain, who burned the witches at Salem. Over 25,000 organized religions flourish on this planet, but the followers of each think all the others are miserably misguided and probably evil as well." - Interview for Playboy magazine (February 1963)

Calling things that have been

Calling things that have been proved to exist God, is pantheism which according to Dawkins is sexed-up atheism.
"Pantheists don't believe in a supernatural God at all, but use the word God as a non-supernatural synonym for Nature, or for the Universe, or for the lawfulness that governs its workings....Pantheism is sexed-up atheism." - Richard Dawkins
If you call nature, energy, love, math... God, then you're a pantheist.
Einstein was also a pantheist: “I believe in Spinoza's God, who reveals Himself in the lawful harmony of the world, not in a God who concerns Himself with the fate and the doings of mankind." - Albert Einstein

Frank was a said to be a

Frank was a said to be a gangster amongst other things, but a classy one all the way. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also an atheist.

I.....never heard that he was a "gangster". He was just a classy man, who soothed the soul with his amazing voice, and was very "cool". never "gangster".

I have also heard of his

I have also heard of his connections to the mafia and to be honest I would also find it very possible that he was an atheist.

He was linked to the mafia by

He was linked to the mafia by many people who saw him at different events hanging out with the bosses. So even if he wasn't a made man he was friends with them for sure.

Frank Sinatra wasn't a

Frank Sinatra wasn't a gangster, or "mobbed up". EVERYONE who worked in the biz knew of or was associated with mobsters, because mobsters owned all the clubs, as well as all the casinos in Vegas. However, Frank was adored by mobsters, because he was the biggest vocalist in America, and italian. And Frank had a few friends, like Chicago mob boss Momo Giancana, as close personal friends. Momo was a silent partner in the Cal Neva lodge, a casino frank, dean and sammy all owned shares in. Dean Martin was smart, and sold his shares early, after Bobby Kennedy was made attorney general. Soon after, Bobbys investigations discovered momo as a silent partner, and had the cal neva shut down, thus costing frank and sammy and others a lot of money...but not Dean.

Listen to "My Way" and "That

Listen to "My Way" and "That's Life". Those are powerful songs about life and the end of life without a single mention of god, heaven, or Jesus. Sinatra didn't write the songs, but he sings them like he means them. They're the words of a man who faced up to life squarely on his own terms without an imaginary friend.

But to be honest. I liked Nancy better than Frank. She looked great in boots.
