ziani,

If you are not an Arab why do you believe in a 7th Century ethnocentric religious fairy tale created for desert Arabs?

Dear atheist with my respect if you will allow me I will tell you a truth story happened , the story came to us in Toronto about a man who was in the merchant marine and made his living on the sea. A Muslim gave him a translation of the Qur'an to read. The merchant marine knew nothing about the history of Islam but was interested in reading the Qur'an. When he finished reading it, he brought it back to the Muslim and asked, "This Muhammad, was he a sailor?" He was impressed at how accurately the Qur'an describes a storm on a sea. When he was told, "No as a matter of fact, Muhammad lived in the desert," that was enough for him. He embraced Islam on the spot.

He was so impressed with the Qur'an's description because he had been in a storm on the sea, and he knew that whoever had written that description had also been in a storm on the sea. The description of "a wave, over it a wave, over it clouds" (Surah Nur, 24:40) was not what someone imagining a storm on a sea to be like would have written; rather, it was written by someone who knew what a storm on the sea was like. This is one example of how the Qur'an is not tied to certain place and time. Certainly, the scientific ideas expressed in it also do not seem to originate from the desert fourteen centuries ago.

"Muhammad lived in the desert

"Muhammad lived in the desert," that was enough for him. He embraced Islam on the spot."

Don't let him read Harry Potter whatever you do. Seriously though I'm always stunned that people find this kind of rhetoric remotely compelling as evidence for anything supernatural. My response never seems to vary from a perfunctory "so what"?

The story tells us nothing, explains nothing, and evidences nothing. It can't even be falsified since its entirely anecdotal.

That does not pass any test

That does not pass any test with me. All this confirms is that the author had very good literary skills and a good imagination. One does not have to experience something first-hand to compose a very good description of it.

"To bait fish withal. If it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me and hindered me half a million, laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies—and what’s his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"

This passage was composed by a man who was not Jewish.

And besides, for your assertion to carry weight you must prove that the author was not aware of the sea or had heard any description of the sea by anyone.

and you didn't even hesitate to doubt the story if it is true??

would you believe me that i can breathe underwater and can speak to fishes??
like what i read from DC comics? i have the same ability of aquaman..

"He was so impressed with the Qur'an's description"
the question is..were you impressed with his story?

it seems like you did..

I do not deny the veracity of

I do not deny the veracity of the tale. But just because one can write a wonderful description about something they have never experienced, that does not indicate that they are a prophet. Anna Karenina was written by a man, Tolstoy. Capote was not in Kansas when it went down, but his description of the horrors via "In Cold Blood" launched him into literary immortality.

This is the mark of a good writer, to describe something they may not personally experience. You have convinced me that he was a very good author. But for me to accept that he was a prophet requires a heck of a lot more.

Should I bow down and pray to Star Trek because they foretold many of today's modern conveniences? The Star Trek Communicator was unveiled in 1966, decades before the cell phone.

Sorry ziani, but this is not

Sorry ziani, but this is not what we call compelling evidence. First of all, I have no idea how one would verify this story to scientific standards. Secondly, truth is in the details and those details are exactly what we don't get. Exaggeration in the retelling must be assumed unless ruled out. Science rules out anecdotal evidence for good reasons.

Hello ziani :)

Hello ziani :)

Sam Harris (one of my favorite atheist writers btw) says that Islam is "The motherlode of bad ideas"

He goes on to say that while their are a much smaller number of Muslim extremist, who would actually carry out the killing of the infidels, that many or most Muslims still secretly believe this is a good thing which pleases Allah, and cheer this on privately.

Would you care to comment on this ???

+Fishy1

Hello sir and thanks for your message , sir with my respect to you , Islam unfortunately is associated with terrorism and violence due to the actions of a few extreme individuals who’ve taken it upon themselves to do the most heinous crimes in the name of Islam,Islam has nothing to do with Terrorism, Muslims suffering more than any others by ISIS or any other terrorist group . Those people who kills in the name of Islam are no one but just ignorant people with stupid dreams with no knowledge of Islam.

it is wrong for some one to stereotype a whole entire religion on the acts of groups terrorists , I do not believe any religion promotes killing innocent people terrorists alone are responsible for their actions, The actions of a few fanatical individuals who happen to have Muslim names or ascribe themselves to the Muslim faith should not be a yardstick by which Islam is judged. the media plays a huge role The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.

If you want to talk about Islam, first, you need to know the basics of Islam , many Muslims are far away from Islam and are taking concepts from other and its pops ideas, and are practising them.

ziani,

ziani,

The problem IS with the religion. When mobs go out and attack their neighbors in multiple locations because of a few cartoons, you can't blame it on a few fanatics (who, by the way, are very good at quoting the Quran to justify their actions). The guys who took down the twin towers knew exactly what they were doing and had full Islamic justification. Of course, what is justification for one Muslim may be nonsense to another like yourself, but there is no real way to settle those disputes. Fortunately, most Muslims are better than their religion (they choose sensible interpretations and explain away or ignore horrid passages) even as most Christians are better than their religion. But the same book feeds terrorists and decent people.

When the Quran effectively becomes an idol, and Muhammad a god, the stage is set for terrorism. If Muhammad were simply a good person, Allah's profit, nobody would get upset if someone drew pictures of him. Nobody would go into a murderous rage over criticism. Some might angrily rebut such criticism but that would be the extent of it. But a god, now, that's a different story! You might be killed for being the least bit disrespectful. For all practical purposes, Muhammad has been elevated to godhood even though that is not doctrine.

If the Quran were simply a wonderful book of enlightenment, not unlike those wonderfully crafted calculus textbooks used in universities, nobody would fly into a murderous rage if someone burned a pile of them. They might think that person crazy, that the action was sad, but they would not fly into a murderous rage. Nobody would insist that the Quran be on the highest shelf, that it never be buried beneath another book. A book of wisdom has no need for such ritualistic "respect" any more than a calculus textbook does. Its value is in what it contains. For all practical purposes the Quran has become an idol, and that is ironic given Islam's great efforts to oppose idolatry.

I have close friends that are Ismaili muslim. I have respect for them but absolutely no respect for islam or any other religion or myth. I don't believe in gods and my respect for someone is reserved and guarded depending on that person as an individual. You request that we/I be "kind". That largely depends on you. If you start proselytizing, spewing revisionist history, or offering pseudo-science, I won't be kind. If you make assumptions about atheists or atheism I won't be kind. If you use this forum as a platform for an agenda, I won't be kind.
You are starting off with one strike against you in my opinion because you live a lie, so I will find it hard to believe you about almost anything. Islam is the 2nd most destructive force against humanity only to be outdone by christianity. Islam is based on the pathological and psychotic mental disturbances of a madman the one you call a prophet. The Quran holds no authority or validity with me and I will not be held to its assumption of power and authority so get that straight in your head right now.
I will not welcome you until I know how you are going to be on this forum. Will you be a voice of reason or will you just be another troll, your choice!

my dear atheist with my respect any human being with even little common sense can understand how much Media can influence people in a way they want! Its pity to see that even literate people falling for that.Understand Islam by your own self. Those names on the news channels you see have nothing to do with Islam and more to do with media, propaganda, there is completely something else is going out there actually. If you want to talk about Islam, first, you need to know the basics of Islam

, i do not hate anybody ,i could never despise you for your colour, your race or your family or your religion because In the religion of Islam there is no racism because all people are equal, Islam teaches that in the sight of Allah, all people are equal regardless of race, status , religion or wealth, and there is no coercion in Islam regarding religion and belief. It is not possible to force a person to change his belief; According to the Quran, "There is no compulsion in religion" (2:256), it can only be done with persuasion and the approval of the person. Freedom of belief is one of the leading rights of man. If religion were communicated to people with fear and oppression, there would be no meaning to belief. It was left up to people to direct their lives with free will

Yet you would agree that taxing (Jizya) non moslems (dimmis) at a higher rate than moslems is ok?

Would that not be discrimination and protested by every moslem (and a lot of others) if applied to moslems in non moslem countries?

Is that Jizya not a tax to 'persuade' the non moslem to convert?

Hardly free will I suggest.

They are in parable like a hard, barren rock, on which is a little soil: on it falls heavy rain, which leaves it (Just) a bare stone. They will be able to do nothing with aught they have earned. And Allah guideth not those who reject faith.
Pickthall:
264 O ye who believe! Render not vain your almsgiving by reproach and injury, like him who spendeth his wealth only to be seen of men and believeth not in Allah and the Last Day. His likeness is as the likeness of a rock whereon is dust of earth; a rainstorm smiteth it, leaving it smooth and bare. They have no control of aught of that which they have gained. Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.

2 Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal.
3 It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
4 Then those who reject Faith in the Signs of Allah will suffer the severest penalty, and Allah is Exalted in Might, Lord of Retribution.
Pickthall:
2 Allah! There is no god save Him, the Alive, the Eternal.
3 He hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, even as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel.
4 Aforetime, for a guidance to mankind; and hath revealed the Criterion (of right and wrong). Lo! those who disbelieve the revelations of Allah, theirs will be a heavy doom. Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong).

If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. God made a covenant of old with the Children of Israel and We raised among them twelve chieftains, and God said: Lo! I am with you. If ye establish worship and pay the poor-due, and believe in My messengers and support them, and lend unto God a kindly loan, surely I shall remit your sins, and surely I shall bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow. Whoso among you disbelieveth after this will go astray from a plain road.
And because of their breaking their covenant, We have cursed them and made hard their hearts. They change words from their context and forget a part of that whereof they were admonished. Thou wilt not cease to discover treachery from all save a few of them. But bear with them and pardon them. Lo! God loveth the kindly.

O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, and from among the Jews. [They are] avid listeners to falsehood, listening to another people who have not come to you. They distort words beyond their [proper] usages, saying "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware." But he for whom Allah intends fitnah - never will you possess [power to do] for him a thing against Allah . Those are the ones for whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

Bahahahahahahaha!

Bahahahahahahaha!

The Holy SCHIDT 13:45 States:

"And The Highest Prophet, the honestly inspired of the Holy and True It That Is says unto all humanity that anyone claiming inspiration of any god other than the Great Hermaphrodite Herself is false and that any who claim divine inspiration but who is not approved by the True Prophet, The Chief Muckety-Muck, The Holy Mouthpiece, will be cursed and their balls will shrivel up to the size of raisins, their vagina's glued shut to pleasure for one year."

And, THS 13:49:
"Anyone who writes long ass quotes from obviously ridiculous books penned by men claiming inspiration but obviously having none (other than their own egos and agendas), who are afraid of anyone who thinks differently, is threatened by those thinking for themselves who do not simply accept what is being pushed down their throats as truth... a full year of constipation shall be visited upon them!"

"This is the Word of The True It That Is (TITTI for short), Ahem"

It's fun.. you should try it!

*P.S. The Holy SCHIDT is coming soon... currently, its being divinely inspired and written down, but soon.
(Honest Observations Liberating You, Spiritually Correct Honestly Inspired Divine Truths = Holy SCHIDT) ;o)

the whole Quran is scrap so I

the whole Quran is scrap so I decided to collect all scrap and quote it in one comment cause religious folks only quote kindness, love bla bla bla and try to teach us love, kindness, respect but forgot about their own religions hypocrisy :)
