Hi everyone! I found this site several months ago, and just joined as a member today. I am so happy to finally have a safe, comfortable place to openly discuss my beliefs!

I won’t write a huge long bio story, but basically I was raised in a fanatical Christian household. Even as a very young child, I seriously doubted the crazy, non-sensical teachings I was hearing in Sunday school and at home, but I had no dare to voice my beliefs, for fear of being severely punished by my dad. When I moved out on my own and started my own life, I was finally able to freely choose what I believed. I’ve been an atheist now for a few years. My mom is very supportive, because she was finally able to break away from the Christian dogma when she divorced my dad. While she hasn’t fully rejected the idea of Jesus, she is slowly opening her mind to the possibility of other ways. My dad is still a Bible thumping Christian. I’ve never told him straight out that I’m an atheist, but he does know I reject many of the Christian teachings, and he tries to get me to “see the light” every chance he gets.
