ANOTHER SCHOOL SHOOTING!

19-year-old Nikolas Cruz used an AR-15 to kill 17 innocent people.
I am so sick of this nonsense I can't see straight.
AGAIN...NO ONE NEEDS A GUN!
I don't want to hear any fucking bullshit about the 2nd Amendment! I don't want to hear excuses or stories about supposed "self-defense" or the "joy" of hunting!
I don't want to hear the lie if we ban guns only criminals will have them. Those are ALL fucking lies and you know it.

This isn't a Liberal, Conservative thing. It's common sense! Ban guns, ban ammunition unless your JOB requires one!

If you get joy out of shooting another animal, then you have a serious neurological condition and should be locked in a padded cell.

What about those that enjoy eating the animal? That should be more disturbing than to enjoy killing them.

you don't have to know the cow to eat a burger right?..

but that's how we survive..how is it disturbing?

except dogs and cats, domestic animals..

I'm not saying it is disturbing. I'm saying eating it should be more disturbing than killing the animal, for those that think killing the animal is a neurologic disorder.

We are discussing REALITY here about the danger and stupidity of the lack of gun control and you are talking STUPID hypotheticals!

I'm just saying lol. A serial killer is bad enough, but one that then proceeds to eat his victims is worse.

You can't be opposed to hunting if you enjoy meat.

"You can't be opposed to hunting if you enjoy meat."

Of course you can. You could argue that hunting doesn't provide food in the most humane fashion, also that is superfluous to providing food in the first place for most contemporary human societies. If you were an Inuit it might be hard to oppose hunting if you ate meat, but most humans no longer need to hunt for meat.

You mean the moral

@John
You mean the moral proscription against cannibalism? A lot of vegans certainly agree with you and as we learn more about animal sentience and moral behaviour it will give a lot more people moral qualms and a lot more vegans will be created. I'm not a vegan, by the way. But in the meantime, we have the bravery of being out of range. Meat comes in a tray from the butchery department at the supermarket. Few of us kill an animal with a gun ourselves, fewer still with our bare hands. There's a reason we ate a lot less meat when we did our own killing.

I consider myself a platonic vegetarian. I avoid meat whenever possible, and love the idea of being vegetarian. But, not to the point where I'll turn down someone's food if they give me meat.

Sushisnake's picture
I don't avoid meat, but I try

I don't avoid meat, but I try to be ethical about it and prefer fish anyway. I worked in an abattoir briefly, so if I really want red meat I'll choose kangaroo most of the time. The kill's quicker, cleaner and more humane. Beef cattle can suffer hard if the truck arrives too late on Friday afternoon. Sometimes only a nice piece of sirlion will do me, so I save it for eating out.

Healthy lean red meat. Strong flavor.
Didnt you know that Aussies are the only nation that eat their national emblems?...raging good tucker too.

Frozen 'Roo tail also makes a handy weapon. Several fatalities have been record in the Northern Territory when beatings and domestic violence occur using frozen roo tails. Here's one.

We tried kangaroo in steak and sausages. Horrible stuff. Crocodile's good though. And water buffalo's not bad.

the only nation that eat their national emblems?.

Kiwi used to be quite the delicacy. The Maori ate them nearly to extinction before the Europeans arrived in New Zealand. There have been proposals for farming kiwi, but that's sacrilege these days. I don't know why. No farmed animal ever goes extinct.

I think some varieties, such as the tree kangaroo, are endangered. But other types are not protected and some are even regarded as pests. Large kangaroos are also quite dangerous. They kick and punch and have big sharp claws that can disembowel you or rip your face off. They are also a bit of menace on roads. Kangaroos don't seem to have heard of "look before you leap." And they really can leap.

Even in the US due to the

Even in the US due to the extinction/rarity of natural predators deer/elk populations can grow out of control, if it wasn't for cars/trucks, it would be a huge problem in areas where human habitat borders deer/elk habitat. Further in the wild where their natural predators are still missing, instead disease and famine cull their numbers.

Deer and Elk in many areas in the US are considered pest, deadly pest when people die in cars hitting them when they cross the road typically at night.

US national forest, which are committed to the protection of animals sometimes even offer bounties for killing deer/elk in select areas. They have also tried reintroducing wolf populations, mountain lions and other apex predators into areas they before were driven out. They have mostly failed however.

Nope more of the fuckers every year. Have to cull millions. All the grazing since colonization. Emus in WA are the same.

Some 'roo relatives are endangered or very rare, mostly tropical rock wallabies, mainland Quokkas, some Alpine miniature roo/wallaby species.

But Red and smaller Grey Roos? Feking millions of the bastards. The male big reds can go 6-7 feet and 300 pounds...and they don't like people much.

And a roo plague is heart breaking thing to see. You never want to see suffering like it again in your life. Ditto rabbit plagues and myxie. Enough to make this softy want to grab a gun and learn to shoot straight.

Yeh is an acquired taste, gamey.

Ah but the Kiwi isn't on your National Coat of Arms, the 'roo and the emu (who we lost a war to) are both on ours.

Croc, Buffalo(is brilliant) snake and goanna are all good tucker. Honey ant are nice but bitey, tree grubs are gross unless fried to crispy extinction. I used to live up country so have sampled all of these.

@Algebe
I love roo steak, but it's gotta be a little rarer than you'd cook beef steak and you've gotta have high heat and quick hands. Not a good one for the kitchen smoke detector. I've lost count of how many times I've set the bloody thing off. Good for the barbie, though. My housemate likes well done meat
( fucking philistine!) so I'm going to try some slow cooker roo stews this Winter.

I like crocodile, too. Very much.

With local truffles, native mushrooms, slow cooked in a cheap aussie (bugger off style) peppery shiraz, root veggies, fennel, and native citrus...deal me in.

I'll be doing mine about July....slow cook good with roo sausages as well, but just onions, mushies, celery, veggies and wine.

Says the guy that has a avatar picture of: guy holding, (what looks like to me,) a mini gun.

All in good fun, just could not resist the /poke

I do agree though, people that hunt purely for the joy of shooting a defenseless animal need to be immediately and carefully examined, and probably have all their guns taken away.

Another massacre in a school.

Another massacre in a school. Seventeen people dead. The 18th school shootout in 2018. One every 60 hours. Something is rotten in the USA when these killings keep happening so regularly. The only developed country in this situation. Thoughts and prayers are not enough to change this.

LogicFTW's picture
The fact that the US has ~350

The fact that the US has ~350 million guns might have something to do with the regularity of massacres. (That's more guns than people.)

To say we are a gun obsessed and crazed culture in the US is not to state even half of it.

The logic of selling powerful, easy to use, mass killing machines is about the same as walmart selling grenades and bombs to anyone over the age of 18. No waiting period, no background checks, (some states allow gun shows to sell guns, as person to person type sale that has no requirements other than the buyer be over the age of 18 and have a valid id.)

Sheldon's picture
"The fact that the US has

"The fact that the US has ~350 million guns might have something to do with the regularity of massacres. (That's more guns than people.)"

How do rates of gun crime in the US compare with countries that have strict gun laws? If you'll forgive the loaded question, and now the appalling pun. It's a no brainer to anyone outside the US I feel, no one, and I mean no one needs an assault rifle or an automatic weapon of any kind. Unfortunately the billions of dollars being made by gun manufacturers isn't going to go quietly.

LogicFTW's picture
Well the easy answer there,

Well the easy answer there, (preaching to the choir here - hey another bad pun for a board about atheist!) is a comparison to Japan that has very strict gun laws, and they have almost no gun related crime or suicide or accidents at all. In 2014 Japan had only 6 gun deaths the entire year, with a population of ~127 million. Where the US had 33,599 deaths in the same year with 318.6 million people.

That is over 2000 times more likely to be killed via a gun in the US vs Japan.

I agree, about assault rifles and other automatic weapons. I think we can all agree that people cannot buy bombs or grenades at the local corner store only requiring being 18 and having a valid id. Because outside of certain industry uses, bombs are only used to kill a lot of people easily. The same should apply to certain types of guns.

ZeffD's picture
It isn't a matter of banning

It isn't a matter of banning guns. There are plenty of countries with widespread gun ownership and sensible firearms controls.

The USAmericans currently misinterpret the 2nd amendment, ignoring the "militia" bit and interpreting it to mean 'irresponsibly few limitations on civilian firearms". This misinterpretation became popular after the civil war (1864), or so I hear. Many countries too have a well-armed militia but no school shootings.

Other questions should not be ignored. Mental health and bullying cultures in schools to name only two.

The real problem is the 'gun culture'. It is based on ignorance, political lobbying groups and sometimes silly ideology. People should return the USA to taking the best ideas from around the world and making them work. Looking intelligently and objectively at issues, not 'having faith in' party or cultural opinions.

Sheldon's picture
Other countries have mental

Other countries have mental health issues, and whilst all schools in the uk are now legally required to have an anti-bullying policy, it still goes on. Guns are the ingredient that turns into mass murder, and a proliferation of guns makes it far more likely that there will be a proliferation of gun crime. Does anyone need an assault rifle, let alone a hormonal teenage boy?

I admit I have no idea why so many Americans are so passionately committed to the 2nd amendment, it's largely redundant now anyway.

Edit: I'd also add that plenty of countries have strict gun laws, and the result is comparatively low rates of gun crime. Can anything be worse than what we are seeing in schools all over the US, and again today?
