It is a real issue, and quite scary one (to me.) They have a few alternatives in the wings that may save our butts, but if we do not find solid replacements, the power of medicine will take a large step backwards, with it's accompanying drop in life expectancy.

Nature has some hope for us

Nature has some hope for us yet. Garlic is antiviral, parsley is antibacterial, and there are more herbs that can help. America in it's early years had a herbal based medicine. Time to go back to are roots of herbal medicine.
