@Algebe Re: Bright side

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know... I totally get that aspect of the whole thing. Dog-gone-it, though, being the rebellious "Black hat" is SO MUCH MORE badass and melodramatic. Plus, like I said, the wardrobe change is going to cost me a fortune. *grumble-grumble*

All christians are not as uninformed or arrogant as you seem to be. I know they aren't. In addition to very recently being one myself, most of my family are STILL christians, and this sort of back-handed insolence and questioning of atheist integrity is reprehensible.

"Just keep your honest answers as open-minded as possible. Please, I only need your honest responses" (stated twice) implying that WE are the dishonest group? Really?!

As has been pointed out already, your "survey" is a clumsy and transparent attempt at evangelism in the vein of "get the poor lost atheists to think about faith so they can find god."

Evidently you don't understand atheists very well. Considering that many if not most atheists used to be theists, and that most of those that were came to atheism via intense study of religion, and that as a result we likely know more about your religion than YOU do, exactly how dense do you have to be to believe that asking us a few poorly worded and confusing questions based on YOUR misunderstanding of both theism and atheism will make US alter opinions we hold based on reason?

Here's a tip: don't insult the intended target of your evangelism by understanding them so poorly that you are openly offensive in your first paragraph.

Oh, bonus: don't frame questions based on assumptions you hold as part of doctrine but which may not be understood and are definitely not held by your intended audience.

You're welcome.

Outstanding reply. It is a shame, though, that "PathofPeace" or whoever the individual might be, will most likely never see any of the responses on here or even care about what is said. Funny how we never see any follow-up replies by the OP on so many of the "surveys" posted on the site. Sorta reminds me of kids ringing doorbells and then running off to hide behind a tree to see what happens when somebody opens the door.

He'll probably be back next

He'll probably be back next week with a new name asking us to respond to a survey for his/her kindergarten graduation thesis on atheist morality, cosmology, and brain chemistry. But it's good sport for us, and it's always hunting season.

Are we going to start taking

Are we going to start taking bets on the odds of this guy ever coming back and reading and commenting on the replies to his survey?
Or would we all just be betting the same way?

Thx tin-man. It really is a pity if s/he never sees it. I don't get it. Are they trolls for amusement? Or is this like a telemarketing equivalent of evangelism? Has anyone ever had a discussion with someone who leaves "survey" questions?

Sorta hard to have a discussion with somebody who never stays around for it, Dark. Besides, cheap entertainment, at least. However, I sometimes wish I was a super-wizard at computer tech stuff, because I would love to develop some type of "sniper" program to pick them off when they pop their heads up. lol

@Darkkwolfe: "Has anyone ever had a discussion with someone who leaves "survey" questions?"

One popped up a few months ago with a "questionnaire" about how atheists live without morality after they reject god or some such nonsense. Anyway, it offended me more than usual to be accused of having no morals, so I called he/she/it an arrogant gobshite. Then the original poster came back all tearful and hurt and hung around for a little while protesting at the harsh treatment. Never mind that they'd blithely called every atheist amoral.

These trolls are a few IQ points south of stupid. But it is possible to learn something and have fun while demolishing their castles in the air. Often the discussions spin off in new and interesting directions.

Do you still look at this thread?

Spiritual Survey
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I try not to. It hurts too much.

This is a spiritual survey. Intention? Just keep your honest answers as open-minded as possible.

Why should I open my mind? I like where it is. If I open it, then some of the poison of the world of the Absolutists may get in.

Please, I only need your honest responses.

I never lie about religion/spiritualism. ;P

Thank you very much for participating!

No thanks needed. Sometimes I just feel shitty and want to ruin some Absolutist's day...

1. In regards to agnosticism, if you are one and don’t know if God exists, how do you think a relationship with God would influence your life? Even if you just experimented on trying it out?

I am not agnostic. I am Atheist and Anti-Theist and Anti-Religion. Honestly? Fuck any god. All any god has ever done for me is make my life more miserable and intolerable.

2. Whether you believe in Him or not, why do you think knowledge of God would have any impact on individual hearts?

What impact? How do you know that kind of knowledge would have any impact?

3. If you were or are a non-Christian believer and were asked to imagine where you came from before you were born, what your purpose in life is, and what to expect after you die, what might your reaction be? Why has that shaped the way believe today?

I came from the mixing of genetic material from my mother and father as also happened to them, ad infinitum.
As for my purpose in life, it was to raise my daughters and to love my wife.
After I die, there will be nothing. Since there will be nothing, no reaction.
My curiosity has shaped the way I have always believed, even when I was psychologically terrorized as a child to be a believer and to become saved. Even then I still did not truly believe, and when I got the chance to get away from that bullshit, I left.

4.On a scale of 1-10 how likely would you be willing to open to an existence of God? Why do you believe that to be true?

0.

5. If faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen as Christians claim; why does atheism exists as belief system in your life, even if it’s giving faith a chance that God could be real or not?

Faith is the belief in things without any proof, NOT things hoped for. Things hoped for is just that: Hope.
Atheism is not a belief system. It is a personal relationship with reality.
God is not real. The burden of proof shall forever lie with religion. If they propose the existence of something, they MUST follow the Scientific Method in their defense of its existence. Otherwise, I have no reason to believe them. Hearsay is the worst possible form of any kind of evidence. ALL religious texts are nothing more than 100% hearsay. Thus, again, I have no reason to believe any religious text as any kind of proof.

Where's the beef?
