The slow shift towards secularism/atheism

I don't even live in the US, but I get a warm fuzzy feeling to see things like this:

Maybe there is hope yet.

Maybe there is hope yet. Since I live in the southern United States, I am careful who I confide in concerning religion. There are church buildings all over the place here.

I live in a country which is 98% Christians, and I see little to no decline, though most peope here do not take religion seriosly in the way, like a subject they never wish to talk about or even think about.

Same here. Well, a lot of the people here do not talk about religion because they themselves know very little about it. They only belong to a certain church because they were raised in it. Otherwise, they have not even read the bible nor are familiar with the things that are written there.

Most Christians are like that.

When I tell them that god in the bible accidentally steps on shit and gets pissed about it, they are like: :O

them: "You are lying!!!"

me: "No it is true, since only after Jesus came, god became omniscient so.... :)"

LOL it is funny when you see this human side of their god and when you remember their faces after informing them about it.

Things seem to be going ok in my part of Canada (Maritimes), now I can't speak for everyone here, but I've been sensing a slight decline in faith. It seems whenever I engage in conversation with someone my age (I am 18), some adhere to the customs of religion rather than the belief.

This has to be a major setback for the Christian right.

Oh, oh oh! Bringing up a point about homosexual marriage finally being legalized in the US, I've heard some Americans are moving here now (Canada) because of it.

Little do they know it's legal here too... Man if there turns out to be some sort of om impotent being (and this is more fatalist for predetermining actions) I'm giving him/her a high five for when they realise this.

It really would be wonderful if this could get approved. If it were to happen in the US, it could inspire other countries as well.

Whoever came up with the idea

Whoever came up with the idea that only theists can be moral? Why does anyone need God to tell them what is right, or wrong, and what makes sense and what dosen't? Don't these people have their OWN minds...I think not, thats why they are theists!!

This reminds me, a theist

This reminds me, a theist acquaintance of mine the other day told me that 'people like me' are giving Christianity a bad name. I think I pissed them off, since my response rather shut them up really fast, and I haven't heard anything about it since. I only reminded them that the only thing people like me have done is make it more acceptable to be atheist, we don't rove around door-to-door and shore-to-shore spreading the good news that god doesn't exist. At BEST the only thing we have done is make it more comfortable to be openly atheist in society. Christianity's black-eye comes from people on their side, like Ted Cruise or Kent Hovind(Yep, he's back, and his youtube videos are hilarious.), not people like me. These people do more to discredit their own religion than all of my posts on this site combined!

Hell, if they started a class on how to destroy religion I would attend it, as they have single-handedly done more to give their religion a poor reputation than every atheist combined. We don't need to make religion look bad, the adherents do it better than we possibly could, all we do is point and laugh.

I find it funny that theists,

I find it funny that theists, in the face of the scandals that THEY THEMSELVES created, want to blame atheism for all their problems...hey, it wasn't us who were found molesting children, then having to use the donations of hard working people to pay "hush money" to the victims!!!

lumping everyone under a self proclaimed label is dumb. Then using that as a straw man to bolster your own weak argument is even more dumb

As more of us come out of the theistic closet, hopefully this trend will continue to the point where we are a majority and not treated as second-class citizens or worse, not worthy of being citizens at all.

It's going to be a tough,

It's going to be a tough, long road though...I live in one of the Catholic capitals of the world, and with the Pope's visit comming, there are polls that say that 86% of all catholics living in this area think that religion is very important to them, although they may not agree with all the Pope's, and the churches teachings...poor misguided souls!!! In my view, they also are condoning pedophilia.

Harvard isn't exactly the paragon of intellect and morality. The CEO of Enron went there, and was lauded for his "success" by the school before getting caught. Many scivy financiers came from Harvard and did more harm to the american populace in recent history than all those lone religious nuts combined.

And, the unabomber. *mic drop

Absolutely.

Absolutely.
I think it's quite common to see people who achieve the opposite of what they want, by being stupid and stubborn. All you have to do is sit back and watch them destroy themselves.
