Anti-Gay Rights Catholic Bishop Accused Of Same-Sex Misconduct

John Nienstedt

John Nienstedt, the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis who is also notorious for his comments against homosexuals and marriage equality, is under investigation after multiple men, including priests and seminarians, alleged that he had sexual relations with them.

Surprisingly, Nienstedt himself authorized the investigation while maintaining that the allegations are false.

Jennifer Haselberger, the archbishop’s former lawyer, said, “I believe that the investigators have received about ten sworn statements alleging sexual impropriety on the part of the archbishop dating from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit, as Bishop of New Ulm and while coadjutor and archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis. What’s more, he also stands accused of retaliating against those who refused his advances or otherwise questioned his conduct.”

In response to Haselberger’s statements, Nienstedt said he had never engaged in any form of sexual misconduct nor made advances towards anyone.

“The allegations do not involve minors or lay members of the faithful, and they do not implicate any kind of illegal or criminal behavior,” he said.

However, this is not the first time that Nienstedt has been accused of sexual misconduct. In December 2013, a minor alleged that the archbishop had groped him during a photo session for a church confirmation ceremony. That accusation, like several others, did not result in charges against the accused, as Nienstedt is believed to have helped in covering up his scandals.

What is ironic is that in 2012, Nienstedt gathered $650,000 from church members to support a proposed amendment that aimed at banning same-sex marriages in the state. However, that particular amendment eventually failed at the polls, despite Nienstedt’s desperate attempts to rally Catholics in voting for its passage. Yet, he has continued to speak against same-sex relations, claiming abortion, sodomy, pornography, contraception and the redefinition of marriage are destabilizing civilization. He has also alleged that the source of this destabilization is Satan.
