1. Making children eat eggs and meat can turn them into cannibals later in life, believes Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopal Bhargava. Slamming the Kamal Nath government’s decision to include eggs in the menu for aganwadis in the state, Bhargava, who is the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, said eating non-veg was against Indian culture. The leader’s remark came a day after his party announced that it will oppose the idea mooted by state Women and Child Welfare Minister Imarti Devi idea to include eggs in the diet of children at anganwadis. BJP national general secretary had on Wednesday described the move as “interfering with the faith and religious beliefs of the people.”

2. A Joker screening in Paris descended into chaos after a man shouting “Allahu akbar” caused the cinema audience to flee. The man, who was shouting the Arabic phrase for “God is great”, was detained by police after the outburst at the Grand Rex cinema on Sunday 27 October. According to a witness who spoke to the paper, the man repeatedly shouted “It’s political!”, which drew laughs from the audience at first until the man stood up, put his hands on his chest and “started yelling Allahu akbar”. The director of the Grand Rex told the Hollywood Reporter that the suspect, working with an accomplice, staged the incident on purpose in order to steal valuables left behind by fleeing audience members. "They were two thieves looking for a way to take people's phones and bags," he said. He added that the cinema is pressing charges against the suspect.

3. 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden was denied communion at a South Carolina Catholic church Sunday because of the former vice president’s stance on abortion. The South Carolina Morning News reported that Father Robert E. Morey of Saint Anthony Catholic Church denied Biden communion because of the presidential candidate and lifelong Catholic’s aggressive pro-abortion beliefs. “Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other and the Church. Our actions should reflect that,” Morey told the South Carolina newspaper. “Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.”

4. The company Always, which makes pads and tampons, recently announced that it would remove the Venus symbol from their packaging in an effort to be more inclusive to their trans and non-binary customers. Had the company not announced the change, it may very well have gone undetected. Feminist campaigner and author Julie Bindel blasted the company’s move. “Removing the female symbol from sanitary towel packaging is basically denying the existence of women,” Bindel told the Daily Mail. “We’re now moving toward the total elimination of women’s biology. The women’s symbol has been used by feminists for decades.

5. Rev. Bryan Fulwider, a Florida pastor and radio host who was arrested earlier this month on 30 counts of child sex abuse, has reportedly killed himself. Fulwider had essentially admitted to raping a girl (he called it a “sexual relationship”) since she was 14 years old, while he was her pastor at the First Congregational Church of Winter Park in Florida. Prosecutors said the case against him was “extremely strong,” which might explain why he chose to end his life rather than face the consequences for his alleged crimes.

6. In response to the Freedom From Religion Foundation ad featuring Ron Reagan, Christian pastor Greg Locke tweeted that the ad was proof that the Democratic Party "HATES GOD' and is willing to "destroy the very fabric of this Nation." One commenter asked Locke to present evidence that America is a Christian nation, and then suggested that Locke read the new book written by FFRF attorney Andrew L. Seidel, titled, The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American. Seidel then chimed in on the thread and floated the idea of personally sending Locke a copy of his book, to which the pastor wasted no time in replying. Seidel sent Locke a copy and the pastor responded by posting a video of himself ranting against the book and ultimately setting it on fire. Seidel retweeted the video along with a link to his book's Amazon page.

7. The aftermath of the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania finds that the attacker has contributed to the feeling of dread even beyond the obvious horrors: One year after the mass shooting, many American Jews feel unsafe displaying symbols of their Jewishness, including yarmulkes and Star of David jewelry. It’s not just the shooting. It’s a general feeling of anti-Semitism that has risen during the Trump era, the kind that has also appeared at White Nationalist rallies where participants yell “Jews will not replace us.” A study released by the American Jewish Committee this week found that nearly 1 in 3 American Jews fears wearing something that might identify their Judaism. 84% of respondents said anti-Semitism has increased over the past five years.

8. Nearly 900 children in the small Pakistani city of Ratodero were bedridden early this year with raging fevers that resisted treatment. In April, the disease was pinned down, and the diagnosis was devastating: The city was the epicenter of an H.I.V. outbreak that overwhelmingly affected children. Health officials initially blamed the outbreak on a single pediatrician, saying he was reusing syringes. Mr. Ghanghro was arrested and charged by the police with negligence, manslaughter and causing unintentional harm. But he has not yet been convicted, and in an interview with The New York Times, he insisted he is innocent and has never reused syringes. Health officials now say that Mr. Ghanghro is unlikely to be the sole cause of the outbreak. Visiting health workers saw many cases of doctors reusing syringes and I.V. needles. Barbers take the same razor to the faces of multiple customers, they said, and roadside dentists crack away at patients’ teeth on sidewalks with unsterilized tools.

9. A group of people from across the country who formerly identified as gay and transgender have descended upon Washington this week to share their stories and lobby against two proposed LGBTQ-rights bills. The group is made up of 15 members of Church United and Changed, two California-based organizations that seek to provide community for, and protect the rights of, “formers” — individuals who formerly identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The bills the group is lobbying against are H.R. 5, better known as the Equality Act, and H.R. 3570, or the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act. Both have been supported by the country’s major LGBTQ advocacy organizations, though neither is expected to become law anytime soon.

10. An Iranian beauty queen who has spent almost two weeks inside Manila's international airport says she will be killed if she is sent back home and is seeking asylum in the Philippines.

Bahareh Zare Bahari, a contestant in the Miss Intercontinental pageant in Manila, claims Tehran is attempting to silence her because of her public stand against the government. In a press release last week, the Philippines Immigration Department said the international police agency Interpol issued a worldwide request to arrest Bahari, known as a red notice. The statement did not specify which country requested the red notice, but Bahari told CNN that an immigration official told her Iran requested one in 2018. Bahari believes she is being targeted for supporting the exiled Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran overthrown in the country's 1979 revolution.
