1. Christians are outraged again, and this time, it’s not because their Starbucks cups aren’t Jesus-y enough. It’s because of a Netflix comedy special that depicts Jesus in a same-sex relationship. About 1.5 million people have signed a petition in Portuguese calling for the streaming video giant to remove The First Temptation of Christ from the network because it has “seriously offended Christians” by raising the possibility that Jesus is gay. Specifically, it shows a Jesus who is turning 30 and “brings a surprise guest to meet the family,” according to the Netflix description. Critics have criticized the “politically incorrect” idea that Jesus had a special friend named “Orlando,” calling the show “trash” and saying it’s “extremely offensive to the values, principles and Christian faith.”

2. Fears are growing among India's 200 million Muslims that they could soon be classified as illegal immigrants under new, far-reaching government proposals. Earlier this year, authorities released an updated count of Indian nationals in the northeastern state of Assam, home to more than 30 million people. In order to make it onto the registry, residents had to provide the government with evidence that their families had migrated to India before March 24, 1971, around the start of the Bangladesh war of independence. A little over 1.9 million people didn't have the right documents. The NRC, however, showed that it wasn't only Bengali-speaking Muslims who were living in Assam without the required documents -- many Hindus of different ethnicities were also left off the list. According to Aman Wadud, a lawyer who has been working with Muslims who have been declared illegal immigrants in Assam, the NRC process is punishment in itself.

3. A Minnesota Muslim woman has received $120,000 to settle her lawsuit alleging she was forced to strip in jail and remove her hijab for a booking photo over a traffic offense, the woman and her attorneys said. Aida Shyef Al-Kadi appeared with her attorneys at the Minneapolis headquarters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations to announce the settlement approved last month. Al-Kadi, 57, said her treatment at the Ramsey county jail in August 2013 was “one of the most humiliating and harmful experiences” of her life. “I knew that I did not want any other Muslim woman to experience what I did,” she said. In her lawsuit, Al-Kadi argued that the county violated her constitutional rights and discriminated against her for her religious beliefs.

4. Steven Ravbar and Matthew Carabella, two men known for standing on a street corner near London’s busiest intersection wearing Bible-themed sandwich boards and speaking into a megaphone, often addressing specific passers-by with messages about their sins. Now they’ve taken their show on the road, appearing in Waterloo. Waterloo resident and retired preacher Karen Nancarrow called the Waterloo Regional Police Department after the men began shouting abuse at her and others, including a group of young women. They started yelling, “I bet you’re a whore, I bet you’re a prostitute, you’re probably one of those feminists. You should be home serving your husband’s needs instead of out working.”

5. A hospital trust has become the first in the UK to introduce disposable sterile hijabs for staff. The Royal Derby Hospital launched the headscarves earlier this month after one of its junior doctors came up with the idea during her training. Farah Roslan, who is Muslim, said the invention was the result of needing to find a middle ground between “dress code due to faith” and the “passion” of being in the operating theatre. She added that the headscarves provide a solution to infection control concerns relating to hijabs, which are typically worn throughout the day.

6. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told the audience at the Kuala Lumpur Summit that not a single Muslim country is considered developed despite their immense wealth. “They are all weak and incapable of protecting the Muslim ummah, even if it is their duty by their religion,” he said in his keynote address. “If we care to honestly assess our situation, we must admit that we and our religion have become the subject of much vilification and defamation.” The event which runs until Dec 21 is attended by delegates from about 20 countries including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. In his speech, Mahathir said Muslims and Islam had been equated with terrorism and government failures, acts of irrationality and those unworthy of civilised behaviour.

7. An investigation published by the Washington Post focuses on a complaint filed by a whistle-blower who alleges the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints holds $100 billion in a charitable fund from member donations that hasn’t been spent in over 20 years—but is instead reportedly intended for the “second coming of Christ.”  The complaint was filed with the IRS on November 21, 2019, by David A. Neilsen, a 41-year-old church member who worked for Ensign as a portfolio manager—but his twin brother, Lars, provided the Post with a copy of the complaint. Nielsen asked in his complaint: “Would you pay tithing instead of water, electricity, or feeding your family if you knew that it would sit around by the billions until the Second Coming of Christ?”

8. The second draft religious discrimination bill will have wide-ranging effects on many areas of public life including access to medical services, schooling, employment, social media, aged care, hospitals and even some commercial services. Statements of religious belief Protection received: statements of religious belief will not be found to breach other federal, state and territory discrimination laws. Example: A single mother who, when dropping her child off at daycare, may be told by a worker that she is sinful for denying her child a father (Public Interest Advocacy Centre)

9. Anti-LGBTQ Pastor Kevin Swanson, a guy who once blamed Hurricane Harvey on the city of Houston having “a very, very aggressively pro-homosexual mayor,” isn’t happy that teenage activist Greta Thunberg was named TIME magazine’s “Person of the Year.” He said on his radio show that the reason Thunberg has Asperger’s is because she’s been possessed by a demon, and the only cure is Jesus. “She’s psychologically disturbed,” Swanson said… “I have to say there is something very disturbing about the appearance of and the presentation of this Greta Thunberg,” Swanson commented. “The other demonic spirits are using her to lead the world wherever it’s going.”

10. Dave Hayes, a Christian activist known as the “Praying Medic,” has previously said God put gold dust on his hands and that God and Satan both speak to us but with different voices. On a livestream over the weekend, he just casually talked about how someone was healed of cancer supernaturally thanks to him. He said, "… Healing is amazing. We got a cool testimony yesterday. Somebody emailed us, and this person had been taking some of my instruction on healing and using it and praying for people. He got… a friend or a relative, I forget, was diagnosed with end stage cancer. Stage 4. I don’t remember if it was pancreatic cancer or liver cancer, but it was not good. The doctor basically said they were going to die pretty quickly. There really wasn’t much hope for treatment… They went into hospice. And they said, within 24 hours, they would probably be gone. That’s how far advanced this cancer was."
