In a meeting with graduates at Helwan Leadership Institute, former Grand Mufti of Egypt Ali Gomaa reveals 56 reasons for atheism among the youth including “stupidity for not knowing God is merciful.”
Egypt, with the majority of it’s population being Muslims, has no exact number of how many Christians are there, and considers atheism a major threat for its people.
Gomaa’s reasons came prior to a study done by AlAzhar University, which showed among 6000 Egyptian young men and women, 12.5% are atheists.
Gomaa believes there are 56 reasons for such figures, and the most important one, according to him is “they are angry with God.”
The Grand Mufti said:”Atheists are stupid for not knowing God is all Merciful.” “We were able to persuade 10% of them back to Islam and still there is a long way to go,” he added.
Earlier this year, Egyptian police arrested group of Alexandriabased atheists who revealed their beliefs on Facebook, including Alexandrian activist Mostafa Zakareya, who said he is an atheist on live TV.
