Senate Candidate Says That We Must Put God First

One of the Republicans running for Senate from Alabama is Tommy Tuberville, the former head football coach at Auburn University. Some of his former actions were illegal chaplaincies that were pushing Christianity on athletes at public universities around the country and he created an image of himself as a football coach who loves Jesus. Tuberville is trying to win the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Doug Jones, who is running for reelection, along with other candidates. Now he is campaigning using his religious beliefs stating that a belief in God is essential to fixing what he believes are the nation’s pressing problems.

He received applause and amen or two when he said he believes the Trump presidency was a gift from God. “I want to help Donald Trump and you get this mess straightened out,” Tuberville said as the Patheos reports. “And I’m going to do that. But we’ve got to put Jesus and God before everything else. And if we don’t do that we’re going to be brought down to our knees again.”

Tuberville also stated that he would not take a salary if he is elected to the U.S. Senate. “I’m a politician’s worst nightmare. I don’t need the money, I don’t need the job and I ain’t going to be politically correct,” Tuberville said according to AL.com. Considering the fact that he is a multi-millionaire this is not something that would make him seems more honorable. In fact any public servant should be paid for his work and it is not a shame to take your salary if you earn it properly.

Besides Tuberville some of other Republicans who are running for Senate from Alabama are Roy Moore and Secretary of State John Merrill. Moore, former state Supreme Court Chief Justice, is an alleged child molester and Merril is offended by TV because homosexual activities are shown. Together with Tuberville, who wants to help Trump by putting God in front of everything, they make a splendid company and they are all some kind of theocrats pretending to be public servants.

Religion is not an answer and putting God first is not going to solve any problems in the US. Politicians and public servants should be decent, smart, and honorable and with enough experience to battle serious tasks they encounter daily. A town, city or country with its society can improve, but only with people who are capable of understanding and solving problems with real actions. To try and solve problems and deal with difficulties by putting God in front of everything looks much like running away from problems and that is never a solution.
