American science documentary television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey made its prime time debut on Fox on March 9 and the show’s co-producer Seth MacFarlane was quick to confirm that Cosmos has received 17.5 million viewers in the United States alone.

The show featured an introduction by U.S. President Barack Obama and on Twitter, NASA allowed viewers to explore some of the featured moments in the episode – from the exploration of planets and interstellar space to Hubble images.

The show’s first episode titled Standing Up in the Milky Way revolves around our galaxy and the role that NASA has played in exploring it. The premiere featured many of NASA’s missions and the space agency kept the conversation going by offering viewers an in-depth look at some of its most fascinating moments.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is the presenter of the show, which is a follow up of the 1980 television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. His sense of humour and towering personality has earned him a huge fan following already. As he reveals the beauty of scientific exploration, Tyson ensures that science is both fun and accessible.

The documentary television series can be watched online on Amazon, Fox and Hulu.
