A Nihang Sikh (Sikh warrior) was arrested on January 16th in the district of Kapurthala in India’s Punjab state for allegedly murdering a man over suspicions that the victim committed sacrilege at the Gurdwara Sri Chaura Khooh Sahib, a historical Sikh temple in Phagwara on the night of January 15th.
US officials say India was allegedly plotting to kill an American citizen living in New York City who is an attorney and prominent leader for a Sikh separatist group—the Financial Times reported that authorities in the United States "thwarted" a conspiracy.
On December 12, the FBI published its report on hate crimes for 2021, which showed a significant increase of anti-Sikh hate crimes from the previous year. The report listed 214 incidents compared to 89 in 2020, a 140% increase.

In early August, Prabjot Singh, a 30-year-old Sikh, and his friend Arminder Singh visited the Tir Prince Fun Park in North Wales. The two men were at the funfair together with their families. While queuing for a ride in the funfair, one staff member called Prabjot over, then asked him to step out of the line. Arminder, clarifying things on behalf of Prabjot, who is not fluent in English, asked about the request.
