Hindu-nationalist Party Tweets Cartoons of Muslims Hanging from Noose

On Sunday, February 20, Twitter took down a highly inflammatory tweet by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Gujarat Twitter handle. The handle tweeted a cartoon of what appears to be a group of Muslim men being hanged. Local news outlets were able to take screenshots of the tweet before the Twitter platform itself removed the post.

Outrage and scores of protests are erupting in India's Karnataka state after a group of Hindus heckled a young Muslim girl. In a video posted on Twitter on February 8, a Muslim girl wearing a burqa was bullied by a mob of militant far-right Hindus. Muskan Khan, a college student, can be seen fighting back the protesters in the video.

Hindu Holy Men Demand that India Be Declared a “Hindu Nation”

On January 29, a gathering of Sadhus, a holy person in Hinduism, passed a resolution that calls for Prime Minister Modi’s Indian government and the government of Uttar Pradesh to declare India a Hindu Rashtra (Hindu State). The group also laid out other demands, including capital punishment for religious conversions and the release of Yati Narasinghanand Saraswati and Waseem Rizvi.

Indian Girl Alleges Forced Christian Conversion Drove Her To Suicide

On January 19, a 17-year old girl died after consuming an insecticide in a suicide attempt in Thanjavur, a district in the Tamil Nadu state of India. According to local news outlets, Lavanya, a grade 12 student at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, committed suicide due to an alleged forced conversion to Christianity.

On January 15, 2022, Yati Narsinghanand, the controversial priest of the Dasna temple in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and main organizer of the Hindu nationalist events held in Haridwar City, India, between December 17-19, is now under legal custody for two weeks for two different cases. No BJP leader has condemned the speeches nor the event.
