Hello good thinking Folks
You can call me Brian. I`ve recently signed on & read a few of your newsletters. You certainly one up many "Christians" on bible knowledge. Normally I`m not hardcore on most things in life but religion hangs on me like nasty, stubborn piles! "Christian" dogma was forced on me during childhood without benefit of rebuttal! Kinda leaves a lingering bad taste. Now after far too long I`m able to think for myself, somewhat. To me the bible is contradictory, cryptic, & writteneth in archaic language. Newer translations serve only to further muddy the waters. A disjointed compilation concocted over a long time period by many authors in many languages. WTF - I don`t understand it! I remain horrified & repulsed that this is the only indisputable guide/manual that is required reading for those
that would otherwise be doomed to hell. What a choice!
Thou art free agents - conform, obey, or else!! Quite naturally I`m repelled like a polar opposite. This over- abundant continuum
of in your face religiosity is inescapable & all permeating! At present I consider myself an agnostic ever leaning towards atheism. Your newsletters, contributions, & train of thought are reassuring & refreshing! I`m not alone nor am I pre - sentenced to the other place. I find Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawking, & Stephen Hawking, to name a few, much more palatable.
I`m not ready to sign on as a full fledged atheist, but I`d like to remain on your island of sanity in a sea of assholes as an interested consumer. Here beith my feedback in good faith to thee.

I (personally) do not have anything against the person who chooses to believe in a deity, I only have a problem when the person wants to impose their beliefs on the next person. As long as the religious continue to force their beliefs into governmental institutions and all the umbrellas that govern all of us, I will have something to say. As long as children are indoctrinated at a tender age and forced to have their bodies strapped with explosives in the name of some idiots' fucked up beliefs, I will have something to say. As long as the sick, vulnerable and desperate people are ripped off by some lazy fucktards who dress in white suits and call themselves 'pastors' only to be told that they weren't healed because they apparently didn't have 'enough faith', I will most definitely have something to say. That's my take, I SALUTE THE FUCKING 'ATHEIST REPUBLIC' AND OTHER REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENTS LIKE IT!!!!

glad to have found this site. glad to see that there are black atheists like me. at 63, have been atheist since i was 12. hid it for yrs, but it slowly started to come out, and many evangelinut friends tried to bring me back into the fold. i told them i could not come back, as i was never "in the fold," in the first place. sick of rightwing religious nuts tainting the waters between gov and church. thank gawd more and more young people are becoming nones

I love this opportunity to share thoughts. As a Nigerian, I live in a country where everywhere you turn, you see religion in its diverse forms. Atheist republic is so much of an oasis for me. Here, I know that am not alone and I can be myself here and its really great.

I grew up in a muslim family where traditions are followed blindly. My family follows Islam with all their heart and energy. I also used to be the same till I started finding reasons and logic behind the teachings. No one in my family or circles know about me being an athiest. I find this a good platform to share my views and know more about the facts one should know and to increase my knowledge base.

I guess the reason why I can't be a Christian,is that I'm not so poor of character that I would even consider letting someone suffer in my place if I truly Deserved it.

I became atheist since last year may 2014. I grew up in an Islamic family. AR is great platforum to express your thoughts and meet with same like minded people.
I'm happy that now I'm a atheist - but now it's very hard for me to still live in an islamic state.
Trying to found the way to get out from this state and live somewhere else with freedom.

One thing I explicitly enjoy about this group is that even through the good and bad experiences we all may have shared in this group, AR is deeply and inherently a group full of caring, kind-hearted individuals that enjoy the time they spend helping others in ways that many other organizations have attempted and failed to do. No matter what area of the world you may come from, there is a giant home for all of us to live in right here with a massive family of atheists who all promote and share different ideas that we can work together on to accomplish great things. And THAT is exactly what creates a good site on the internet. I am proud to say from an IT standpoint, that with your help, another wonderful addition to the global bandwidth of the internet has been made with both Atheist Republic Masterminds and now a support group linked within the AR website. This page... gives me an outlet that I don't have in the real world, living in a small, conservative town, surrounded by religious family members that I don't feel like I can talk to (Not even my own mother). Having be surrounded and surrounded by people that look down on me of my disbelief, AR is the one place where that doesn't occur. I am very lucky to have a family that excepts me and a father that agrees with me, but it does still get kind of lonely being constantly told either "I'm going to hell" or "I'll pray for you Turner". I just want to thank you for creating such a great community. I grew up in a pretty strict christian household and it wasn't until I went to college that I began to step away from religion. Recently I had my first child and my best friend's mother took upon herself to tell me that I was responsible for my daughter's spiritual health and even though I don't believe in god I needed to "save" her. After this happened a couple more times, myself and another atheist friend of mine put her in her place and she hasn't bothered me since. I began following Atheist Republic right before this happened and it was such an amazing thought to know that there were other people out there who shared my thoughts. Atheist Republic really helped me keep my sanity while going through the criticism. Thank you!

When I first accepted who I was, and that I didn't believe as others did, I felt alone, ostricised, and afraid. It wasn't until I found Casper and AR, that I felt I could actually be who I was. That I wasn't alone. That I wasn't wrong, about what I didn't believe in.

I live in the country that was under communist regime at the time I grew up, so I was not pressured to be a part of the Eastern Orthodox Christianity, that was predominant in my culture. After the fall of the communism, many discovered religion, and it became integral part of Serbian identity; but even in these new circumstances, I can freely express my lack of belief, without fear of any consequence. I have a freedom to express myself, but I lacked the friends' understanding.
Your vision of Atheist Republic made a leeway for people like me to find each other. There, I found many people whose friendship is of outmost importance to me. People that I think of as a part of my family. Friends with whom I can be myself, without fear of them not understanding, so I no longer feel lonely or lost.
In there, I also found the love of my life; the woman that is perfect in every possible way. Your vision created the path for us to find each other.
I can only imagine of how much importance this is to people whose lives can even be at stake if they freely express themselves.
I want to thank you for having the vision that made all this possible.

You are doing a very good job by posting such content in the public sphere. It helps other atheists to understand that they are not alone in having a disbelief in a supernatural being and opposing ridiculous trends of religion.
Knowing that other people share the same concerns as yours regarding the outrageous religious traditions also helps them emotionally and mentally.

I grew up a Catholic, very superstitious and religious (still don't really get the difference) because I was raised that way. I thought God to be everything good, at least I wanted to believe that until I gazed into his supposed character inscribed in the bible. I came to realize that it was the worst character ever written in print I mean theists call him righteous but he is guilty of every sin against humanity. I still didn't want to accept this or more honestly, I was afraid of hell if I ever questioned his holiness..... I came to a partial settlement that God made men, and then men made religion. Sounds a bit logical but it still didn't add up. I then came across the argument of morality versus salvation by Dan Barker (President of the FRFF) and all my questions were answered. Felt good making sense out of my own beliefs for a while, but then there is this loneliness that haunts you, I wouldn't come out to anyone, I'm from Zimbabwe, a modern day medieval society; you have no idea, we still get stories of witchcraft in newspapers down here and the government is informally theocratic, a 91 year old dictator who has ruled for 35 years through democratic means because church leaders say God chose him, and yes, homosexuality will get you a 5 year jail sentence. The secular world is very alien down here and so I became a digital Atheist. Atheist Republic became my safe heaven and provided me with refuge from all the religious prejudice I have to put up with every single day. I think religion is an insult to humanity as it is based on an assumption that we are a mistake by God (Genesis 6:6-7) and only a human sacrifice of his son who we should embrace forever are we purified and through this barbaric concept of human sacrifice shall we escape God's wrath (John 3:16). Anyone is free to believe that crap but they poison children with bigotry and hatred building up religious prejudice, they believe their imaginary friend is in command of everyone's life and we all should be thankful for his grace despite his evil nature; how's that for an insult? Everything went wrong when religion hijacked morality and humanity which we Southern Africans called ubuntu before the European missionaries came with a bible in one hand and a gun in the other. The gun was better because if you live by the gun you die by it, it led to the fall of the apartheid and colonialism, but the bible still haunts the mentality of my fellow country men to this very day. I support Atheist Republic and I hope its impact and message would spread to places like Zimbabwe where the secular community is in hiding afraid of stigma.

I'm happy to find a place that I feel accepted in. I'm normally repressed or insulted for expressing perfectly logical discussions about religion.
If we must accept and live amongst religion, then religion must accept us!

I came to Atheist Republic as a somewhat new atheist with no one to talk to about it. Since then I have acquired some of the best friends that anyone could ask for. We may not all agree on everything but we are supportive of each other. AR can really be a safe haven for somebody who has questions but nobody available to answer them.

As an atheist doctor who is from Syria I am facing a hard time sharing my thoughts and beliefs. I believe the smartest decision I have ever took is leaving Islam.
Although my dad will hate me for this I wish someday I can talk with him briefly about it, and share with my community what I think. I am from Zambia, the only country in the world where 'Christian Nation' is inscribed in the constitution and the President has vowed to rule by the 10 commandments, so the few Atheists here are forced underground. AR is the only place of refuge for me.

I was raised in a very conservative Christian background – Jehovah's Witnesses to be specific. When I was about 17, I joined facebook like any other teenager but with an added twist. I had been doubting the religion of my family for quite some time. Long story short, if it wasn't for Atheist Republic, I would still feel like religion is a life-preserver instead of understanding that it more resembles a noose. Being an atheist is not easy who is living in a islamic country.
