I did not realize we had multiple formatting and word type rules allowed on the forums.
These can aid in communication, especially over in the debate forums.
You can do "descriptive links" like Compose tips
You can do Emphasized
You can do Bold/Strong
You can do Cited/italics although to me it looks the exact same as emphasized.
You can make it more clear you are quoting someone on the forums
Actually n/m on the above our grey background hides the grey spacing, oh well!
You can do various listing formats:
- First item
- Second item
- Third item
- Fourth item

That's great info but I don't want to basically be a coder to write on the forum. If the format was set up with a version of Word you could do all that without writing code.
LogicForTW,
Thanks for the information. This is a hard site to use.
Hi
Hi
1/2
Takes too long.
The formats bold words is not to bad. Just to more words/symbols to type.
The letter symbols can be simply copy pasted from here to there. I actually keep a word document up. And considering creating a "signature" for my posts that I can simply copy and paste in.
Thanks this is good stuff. I used to be a wiz at code in HS. Rusty now.
The known "working" tags are: a, em, strong, cite, blockquote, code, ul, ol, li, dl, dt, dd, p, br.
Although p, br, and code aren't that useful. p and br are for manipulating white space and the forum already does a good job parsing white space without them. code basically disables a small amount of the forums parsing (if you want to post a url WITHOUT it being converted to a clickable link, code is the way to go).
*most of what I know about the system comes from The Pragmatic.
/e Because of the parsing, if you want your post to contain the greater than or less than symbol, you need to use the html entity for it. I can't tell you what they are because if I type them, they will be converted. You can look them up here: http://www.ascii.cl/htmlcodes.htm
Have you tried > = > or < = <
Let's see if this works

Huh, that didn't work.
test stuff
Here is a suggestion. Try HTML-Kit. It is a text-editor that has a "Text" toolbar that allows you to select the text, then click a button to apply blockquote, em, cite, strong, dl, dt, dd, anchor (links), and some other HTML tags this site accepts.
I love it because if I get pissed about someone's bigoted post, I can copy and paste it into HTML-Kit, cool off, then take my time to compose my response. Once finished, copy and paste into the textbox here, do the math, click save.
As said, it allows me to take my time and compose my response as needed without erupting like a volcano and setting off a flame war.

Direct Link to HTML-Kit (free version)
Just scroll down until you see the area as depicted in the attached image.

Edit: added HTML-Kit Screen Capture Furthermore, if you want the tags to remain color coded, you must save the file as an *.html file.

Working on ideas for a copy paste signature I add to the bottom of my post, dont mind this post.
If you are interested in using some of my work to create your own signature I be happy to help and/or provide some code.
Note: these html symbols will look different on different browsers and operating systems. Explorer seems to have no colors on symbols, chrome some, chrome on android a lot of colors, Microsoft Edge tons . Have not yet checked UC Browser, Safari, Firefox and Opera and various other OS's other than android/windows 10. If someone wants to chime in on those please do.
Battling with spacing issues? nbsp; with an ampersand symbol in front of it (no spaces) is your friend here.
