How Do Atheists Find Meaning in Life - Stories from our Community

Is life meaningless without a god? Do we need religion to find purpose in life? See what others think or share your own views.

I'am 68 and was exposed to the First Free Methodist by my mothers father who was a sinner from Kentucky, lost a child, changed his life to become a practicing minister.

I have never felt the need to go looking for purpose or meaning in life.

It was always there.

All you have to do is care.

When I found myself supporting things harmful and not beneficial, Hating others who were different and tolerating no one that had different views than my own, I realized that something was very wrong. I started hating peaceful presidents and started glorifying the war mongering ones.

If an anxious Christian were to ask me, "But...but how do you find meaning and purpose without God..." or the similar "But...but how can you have hope without god...?" I'd say, "I don't find meaning or purpose! I don't have hope! I don't need those commodities! Don't want 'em."

My experience was much the same. I let go of god a few years ago, but I sometimes still have to remind myself that I do not need to "hang on" to GUILT!  I am free!  I am, and have always been a moral, loving and kind person. Where does that guilt come from...
